Tonight I Am My Mother is a comedic character piece written and performed by Liz Allen. Liz looks back at her relationship with her mother, a charming southern woman raised on the coast of North Carolina, with weaknesses for Carolina Joy (aka bourbon punch) and a husband with a wandering eye. Liz shares how she and her siblings – as adults – return to their parents home for a holiday gathering, and an unexpected event affects the Allen family forever. In Tonight I Am My Mother, Liz examines her role in the family, her North Carolina upbringing, wisdom from squirrels, some physics, and Oprah’s teachings.
No foul language; mature themes abound.
Run time: 70 mins
LIz Allen is a 30-year veteran improviser, improv teacher and director. She was the training center director at IOChicago (formerly Improv Olympic), and has an award named for her: The Liz Allen Excellence in Teaching Award. Liz was honored to coach The Commune in Mike Birbiglia’s feature film Don’t Think Twice. Currently, Liz coaches improv to improvisers and corporations, and is thrilled to be performing Tonight I Am My Mother at The Gorton Center.
