“Gorton Drama Students and Teachers Shine: Successes in Theater, Film, TV, and More!”

Welcome to the latest edition of Gorton Drama Student News, where we celebrate the accomplishments of our talented drama students and teachers. Join us as we highlight some of our success stories.

Bob Alongi’s Breakthrough
We start with exciting news from GDS student Bob Alongi, retired optometrist, who achieved a significant milestone in the spring of 2023 by landing his first paying acting job on the upcoming TV series “219.” Directed by the talented TJ Chester, the production experienced a temporary pause due to the SAG strike, but anticipation is high as production is expected to resume soon.

Madison Kisst Takes the Director’s Chair
Another standout achievement comes from Madison Kisst, Gorton Drama Studio teacher, who was hired by Deerpath Middle School to direct their 2023 winter play, “The Phantom Tollbooth.” Madison’s creative prowess delivered an unforgettable theatrical experience for the students and the audience.

Young Talent on the Rise
In the Fall of 2022, a group of budding talents showcased their skills in a silent film at Lake Forest High School. The cast included then 7-year-old Leo Yates, alongside adults Bob Alongi and Bettylynne Koules. Their collaboration added a touch of magic to the local film scene.

Collaboration with Industry Veterans
Jeremy Kruse, Gorton Drama Studio’s artistic director, was invited by actor Vince Vaughn and Lake Forest High School teacher Steve Douglass during the summer of 2022 to collaborate on Lake Forest High School’s summer project, reflecting the industry recognition of the talent nurtured within Gorton Drama Studio.

Recent Triumphs
Our students continue to make waves in the entertainment industry. Joy Khalil, a Grayslake resident, recently booked and shot her first acting gig, the short film “The First Candle,” directed by Rayan Elzein. The production, which took place in Michigan during the second week of November 2023, marks a significant milestone in Joy’s budding acting career. Similarly, Bettylynn Koules, a Wilmette resident, secured her first acting gig for Cars.com, further showcasing the diverse opportunities available to our talented students.

The Gorton Drama Studio community is beaming with pride as our students and teachers achieve remarkable success in various facets of the entertainment industry. These accomplishments not only highlight the talent within our program but also speak to the dedication and hard work put in by each student. As we look forward to more triumphs in the future, we celebrate the bright futures that await these budding stars from Gorton Drama Studio.

Stay tuned for more updates on our students’ journey to success!
