The Best Summer Yet Starts Screen Free
May 20, 2026Gorton Center is introducing Sing at Gorton, a new community series designed to bring people together in a simple, joyful way – by singing.
This is not a class. It’s not a performance. It’s a shared experience.
Each Sing at Gorton event is a one-time, low-pressure gathering where participants can show up, sing familiar songs, and connect with others in a relaxed, welcoming setting. No experience or vocal training is needed – just a willingness to join in.
“Sing at Gorton is about creating space for people to connect,” said Amy Wagliardo, Gorton’s Executive Director. “Singing together is something that’s deeply human. It breaks down barriers, brings people into the moment, and builds a sense of community in a really natural way.”
Research shows that singing – especially in a group – can reduce stress, boost mood, and strengthen social connection. Studies have found that singing lowers cortisol levels, releases endorphins, and even helps people feel more connected by increasing oxytocin, the hormone linked to bonding and trust.
Each 45–60 minute session begins with a simple warm-up, followed by a guided sing-through of well-known songs. Events are led by local musicians and community members, and end with refreshments and time to connect.
