Past Lives is a quiet, deeply moving story about love, timing, and the paths we don’t take.
We meet Nora and Hae Sung as children in South Korea. They’re close. Curious. And connected in a way that feels effortless. Then life intervenes. Nora’s family emigrates, and the two are separated.
Years pass.
Nora builds a new life in New York. She grows into herself. She becomes a writer. However, the memory of Hae Sung lingers—soft, distant, but never gone.
Then, unexpectedly, they reconnect.
First online. Then, years later, in person. As a result, past and present begin to overlap. Old feelings resurface. New questions emerge.
At the same time, Nora must navigate the life she’s chosen. Her marriage. Her identity. Her sense of home. Because of this, every moment feels layered—with possibility, with uncertainty, with truth.
The film moves gently. It lingers in conversation. In silence. In what’s left unsaid. And through it all, it explores the idea of “in-yun”—the invisible ties that connect people across time.
