Fencing has a long and complex history, dating back to ancient times. The art of sword fighting evolved over many centuries and was practiced by cultures all around the world.

In the Renaissance period, fencing evolved into a sophisticated art form, with a variety of techniques and styles being developed. It also became more accessible to the general public, with fencing schools being established throughout Europe.

In modern times, fencing has become a highly competitive sport, with athletes from around the world competing at the highest levels. It is also still taught as a martial art and as a means of self-defense.
