Unlock Your Creative Potential

Have you always wanted to try creative writing but held yourself back? Maybe you’ve written before and want to reignite your passion. Whether you’re starting fresh or returning to the page, this class welcomes you.

This creative writing class invites you to explore your imagination and express your ideas freely. You’ll engage in writing exercises designed to spark inspiration and silence your inner critic. Each session encourages you to write from your unique perspective—without judgment or pressure.

You’ll develop your voice, tap into your creativity, and bring your stories to life. Rather than overthinking, you’ll learn to trust your instincts and play with language. Expect to have fun, take risks, and surprise yourself with what you create. Writing offers a powerful way to explore yourself—and no matter your age or experience, it’s never too early or too late to begin.

Meet Your Instructor: Melissa MacTaggart

Melissa MacTaggart brings a rich background in writing and the performing arts. She has worked as an actor, director, playwright, theatre company creative director, and drama teacher. Her diverse experience gives her a unique perspective on storytelling and creative expression.

For over 25 years, Melissa has worked as a freelance writer across multiple genres. She wrote and produced two original plays featured in Beverly Hills Live in Los Angeles. Her bi-monthly column Urban Suburban appeared in Chicagoland’s Sun-Times newspaper. She also ghostwrote for an online magazine for nine years, covering topics like gardening, eco-conscious living, and sustainability at home.

Melissa has written for the Daily Herald Chicago, created website content, and contributed lyrics and songs as a songwriter. In 2022, she signed a book deal with IOM Media for her upcoming youth novel, scheduled for release in September 2025. Her love for words continues to inspire her writing and teaching.
