A Live Presentation with Dwight Cleveland: Uncover the Hidden Stories of Cinema

Step into the world of vintage movie posters with renowned collector and author of “Cinema on Paper“,  Dwight Cleveland. With nearly five decades of experience, Cleveland has built one of the most impressive and wide-ranging collections in the world. Now, he’s bringing his passion and stories to life in a dynamic 45-minute presentation followed by a lively Q&A right here at Gorton!

From the moment Cleveland takes the stage, he pulls you into the colorful history of international film poster art. He doesn’t just show the posters—he brings them to life. With each image, he shares fascinating, behind-the-scenes stories of how he tracked them down. One moment, he’s facing a tense interrogation at the Havana airport. The next, he’s bargaining with a mysterious collector in Tokyo or wading through a flooded basement in Minnesota. Each adventure adds drama and excitement to the beautiful visuals he presents.

As the evening unfolds, Cleveland takes you on a journey through film genres, legendary stars, and visionary directors. He shows how different cultures reimagined the same films through local design, language, and style. He also highlights the groundbreaking yet often forgotten role women played in the early days of filmmaking—especially during the silent era.

Following the presentation, there will be a book signing for any guests who would like a signed copy of  “Cinema On Paper”.

Whether you’re a lifelong movie buff, an art enthusiast, or simply curious, this presentation offers something for everyone. Through Cleveland’s eyes, you’ll see film history in a whole new way—vibrant, adventurous, and deeply human. Don’t miss this exciting chance to explore the art, culture, and global impact of cinema’s most iconic imagery.
