Mahjong is a competitive, tile-based tabletop game that originated in 19th-century China. It combines strategy, cooperation, and a touch of luck—making it the perfect activity to share with friends or to meet new ones.
Mahjong uses a set of painted tiles divided into suits, and is traditionally played by four people. The goal is to create matching sets, similar to the card game gin rummy. Although the rules vary by region, the core gameplay remains similar across versions.
The game made its way to the United States in the early 1900s. By the 1920s, Chinese-American communities had developed American Mahjong—a version that remains the most commonly played form in the U.S. today.
More than just fun, Mahjong provides a mental workout. Research suggests that games like Mahjong may help improve memory, boost focus, and reduce the risk of cognitive decline. While these benefits aren’t guaranteed, you’re sure to enjoy the lively pace and friendly competition of each game session.
Register today to discover the joy of Mahjong. It’s social, stimulating, and guaranteed to bring some extra excitement to your week!
