WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re seeking passionate, reliable teaching artists who:
- Love sharing their skills with others
- Are comfortable teaching youth, adults, or both
- Bring creativity, flexibility, and strong communication to the classroom
- Are interested in one-time workshops, short series, or seasonal classes
We welcome artists, educators, and creative businesses from all backgrounds and experiences.
AREAS OF INTEREST
We’re especially interested in artists working in:
Visual & Fiber Arts
Knitting, crochet, embroidery, felting, needlepoint, quilting, rug tufting, mosaics, stained glass, mixed media, paper marbling
Drawing, Painting & Design
Beginner through advanced techniques, digital art, manga, printmaking, calligraphy, hand lettering
Craft & Maker Workshops
Jewelry (beading, metalsmithing), scrapbooking, floral design
Writing & Creative Expression
Journaling, travel journaling, memoir, creative writing, art journaling
Wellness & Mindfulness
Creative mindfulness, breathwork, relaxation techniques
Culinary Arts
Cooking classes for youth and adults
Music & Performance
Piano instruction and other music offerings
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with our Director of Programs to develop and schedule classes
- Design engaging, well-structured learning experiences
- Prepare and supply class materials
- Teach onsite at Gorton Center
- Share feedback to help shape future programming
QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise in your field (portfolio, training, or equivalent experience)
- Teaching experience appropriate to your audience
- Strong classroom presence and communication skills
- A collaborative, flexible approach
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE
This is a contract-based role. Teaching artists partner with Gorton on a shared revenue model, with flexibility to set class pricing in collaboration with our team.
Classes run based on enrollment and are scheduled seasonally or as one-time workshops.
