SUMMARY:Peach Jam
DESCRIPTION:Peach Jam: A Night of Allman Brothers Magic\nGet ready to turn it up and settle in for a night of legendary sound. Peach Jam brings the spirit of the Allman Brothers Band to Gorton on Friday\, October 16 | 7:30 pm. And from the first note\, you’ll feel the groove. \nPeach Jam is a collective of some of the best musicians Chicago has to offer. Formed in 2022\, the band celebrates the music of the iconic Allman Brothers Band with passion\, precision and plenty of improvisation. In other words\, this isn’t just a tribute show. It’s a full-on jam experience. \nFirst\, the sound. Then the energy. And finally the feeling that you’ve stepped straight into a classic night at the Fillmore East. \nThe band brings together members of Chicago favorites Cornmeal\, Terrapin Flyer\, Old Shoe\, Helping Phriendly Orchestra and the Brooklyn Charmers. Together they create a cosmic gumbo of hot jams\, tight grooves\, soaring vocal harmonies and down-home blues. The result is rich\, soulful and built to move a room. \nExpect extended guitar solos and deep grooves. Expect the kind of musical chemistry that only happens when great players share a stage. \nAnd of course\, expect the classics. The songs that helped define Southern rock. The melodies that fans have loved for decades. Plus the improvisational spirit that made the Allman Brothers Band legendary in the first place. \nSo grab a friend. Or bring the whole crew. Either way\, settle in and let the music take over. \nAs Peach Jam likes to say\, “People can you feel it? Love is everywhere!” And on this night at Gorton\, you just might feel it too. \nJoin us for an evening of unforgettable music\, great company and timeless sound.

SUMMARY:Salsarobics
DESCRIPTION:Join Esther Gutierrez Sloan every Friday for a dynamic workout that blends fun\, rhythm\, and full-body movement. This class isn’t just about exercise – it’s about joy\, discovery\, and the thrill of dance! \nThroughout the session\, participants choose their intensity level – low\, moderate\, or high – while moving to irresistible Latin\, Caribbean\, Spanish\, and African beats. Options for both low-impact and high-impact movements allow everyone to customize their experience. \nEach class delivers an energizing workout that averages 4\,000 to 4\,200 steps\, with varying degrees of intensity. Esther integrates the Total Body Training (TBT) Systems Methodology to support proper posture and promote muscle conditioning. She also incorporates Peripheral Heart Action (PHA) Training\, offering an optional challenge that builds aerobic strength based on individual pace and rhythm. \nTo build coordination and balance\, the class includes inline motion drills. Participants move across the room using steps that change direction – laterally\, diagonally\, forward\, and backward – adding functional movement to the workout. \nThe session concludes with Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching to enhance flexibility and recovery. \nColombian-born Esther Gutierrez Sloan created SALSArobics in 1989 to fuse authentic Latin rhythms with aerobic exercise. She has performed on national and local television in Illinois\, California\, Florida\, and New York. In addition to leading classes\, she has presented SALSArobics at fitness conventions\, schools\, health clubs\, ethnic festivals\, and international events. \nIn recognition of her groundbreaking work\, Esther was inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in 2010. Learn more about Esther and SALSArobics. \nFind out why dancing is so good for you in our newest blog.

SUMMARY:Everything Can Be Art with Vee Gunn
DESCRIPTION:Each week\, children discover a world of mixed-media materials. They’ll work with upcycled clothing and fabrics\, pre-loved crockery\, beads\, buttons\, ribbons\, and more. Then\, they’ll transform these unexpected materials into artworks and keepsakes they’re proud of. \nTo begin\, every session includes a friendly\, guided lesson. That way\, no one ever feels stuck. After that\, there’s plenty of room to experiment\, make choices\, and follow their imagination. There’s no single “right” way to create – and that’s the whole point. \nMost importantly\, our club is relaxed and encouraging. Mess is welcome\, and every idea is worth exploring. Along the way\, children build real confidence. They learn not only how to make things\, but also how to trust their own creativity. \nAs a result\, they begin to see the world a little differently. Suddenly\, an everyday object can be full of possibility. Something old or forgotten can become something beautiful and new. \nIt’s creative\, hands-on\, and a little bit magical. At the same time\, it introduces big ideas about imagination\, resourcefulness\, and caring for our planet. By giving old things new life\, children discover just how much can be created from what we already have. \nEach week\, your child will leave with something they made themselves. Even better\, they’ll leave with a growing belief that they are an artist. \nNo experience needed. No pressure to be “good.” Just bring curiosity – we’ll supply the rest. \nAges 7 – 13

SUMMARY:Emily Catalano
DESCRIPTION:Sharp\, Smart Stand-Up with Emily Catalano\nEmily Catalano brings her smart\, dry\, and quietly devastating stand-up to Gorton for a night of comedy that sneaks up on you\, then hits twice as hard. She’s a Los Angeles–based comedian who made her late-night debut on CONAN. Since then\, she’s built a devoted following through viral clips that showcase her distinct voice and unhurried delivery. \nEmily finds the humor in the details. She takes her time. She draws you in. Then she flips everyday moments into sharp\, unexpected punchlines. Her jokes don’t chase laughs. They build\, simmer\, and surprise. That approach has earned her recognition from Time Out LA as a “Comic to Watch” and praise from Vulture\, which noted\, “They hit especially hard because they surprise you twice.” \nShe explores social norms\, small annoyances\, and the quiet absurdities of modern life. Her comedy feels observant and personal. It’s like hearing someone say exactly what you’ve been thinking. She’s clever without being flashy and confident without being loud. \nWe’re excited to welcome Emily to our stage for a night of thoughtful\, sharply written stand-up. If you love subtle humor and smart comedy\, this one’s for you. Grab a seat\, settle in\, and enjoy a performance where timing makes all the difference. \nKate Kindcaid- Opener Kate Kincaid is a Chicago-based comedian with a bold\, high-energy style. Her writing is sharp and her perspective is playful. She’s performed at clubs and festivals across the country. She also regularly opens for top touring comedians. Kate brings quick wit and an engaging presence to every show.\nThis show is for mature audiences.

She also incorporates Peripheral Heart Action (PHA) Training\, offering an optional challenge that builds aerobic strength based on individual pace and rhythm. \nTo build coordination and balance\, the class includes inline motion drills. SUMMARY:After School Art Club with Carole
DESCRIPTION:After School Art Club with Carole\nCalling all young artists! After-school art is the perfect place for students to explore their creativity\, try new techniques\, and have fun making something all their own. \nIn this hands-on class\, students will discover the exciting world of art. Each week\, we will feature a different artist. Students will learn about that artist’s unique style\, ideas\, and techniques. Then\, they will use that inspiration to create an original piece of art. \nStudents will experiment with a variety of materials and creative processes. They may paint\, draw\, cut\, glue\, sculpt\, or build. Every project gives students a new way to express themselves. There is no need to make every piece look the same. We encourage students to make their own creative choices and let their personalities shine. \nAfter-school art offers more than a creative outlet. Art activities can help children strengthen fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Students will also practice visual-spatial thinking as they work with shapes\, colors\, patterns\, and space. Each project encourages problem-solving\, too. Students will make decisions\, test ideas\, and discover new ways to bring their artistic visions to life. \nMost importantly\, this class gives young artists a welcoming place to create. Students can build confidence as they experiment with new ideas and see what they can accomplish. They will have opportunities to share their work and celebrate the creativity of their classmates. \nArt can get messy\, and that is part of the fun! Please have your child wear old clothing or bring an apron or smock to class. \nCome create\, explore\, and get inspired with After-school art! \nFor grades K–3rd. \nAbout the Instructor\nCarole Pearlman’s lifelong fascination with creativity began as a child\, in a neighborhood art class\, where making art in the backyard was the only agenda for an entire summer. Many art classes later Carole completed a BFA in painting\, a MEd in Educational Therapy\, and an MA in Developmental Psychology. Integrating the disciplines of art\, education\, and psychology Carole developed The Joy of Creativity Art program. Carole works as a facilitator of creativity with students ages 4 to 84! Through her teaching\, research\, and daily practice\, she believes that being creative is an essential part of a balanced life. Carole is a professional artist and certified teacher.

SUMMARY:Beginner Watercolor Pencil Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Unique Beauty of Watercolor Pencil \nWatercolor pencil is a versatile\, yet often overlooked\, medium. It combines the vibrant flow of watercolor with the precision of colored pencil. Because of this unique quality\, it opens the door to endless creative possibilities. In this fun and accessible course\, you’ll dive in and discover how to unlock its full potential step by step. \nThis class is designed for beginners as well as anyone curious to try something new. To begin\, you’ll explore the different types of watercolor pencils and papers. Next\, you’ll practice applying color both dry and wet. After that\, you’ll learn how to layer and blend effectively. Finally\, you’ll activate pigment with water to achieve luminous\, painterly effects. As you move through each stage\, you’ll see how the medium offers both expressive washes and fine detail – all with the stroke of a pencil. \nEach session will build on the last. First\, new techniques will be introduced. Then\, guided projects will give you the chance to practice them right away. Consequently\, your skills will grow consistently and your confidence will strengthen. By the end of the course\, you will have completed 2–3 finished renderings that showcase the versatility and beauty of watercolor pencil art. \nExperienced Artists Welcome \nIf you already have experience with watercolor pencils\, you’re encouraged to join as well. Instead of following the beginner projects\, you may choose to focus on a personal piece. Meanwhile\, I’ll provide feedback\, answer questions\, and offer individualized guidance. In this way\, you can refine your skills and take your work to the next level. \nUltimately\, this course will guide you through a journey of discovery. They are artistic interpretations of plants. He notices shapes\, light\, and shadows in the ground around him. He often focuses on a single detail – an individual leaf\, a flower\, or a small fragment of earth. In this way\, he brings those details to life. He has worked with colored pencil for several years and has taught the art for the past three. \nPhilip is currently teaching online from his home since March. He teaches online color pencil classes for other art studios/galleries\, private classes and Facebook demos. He has published two books featuring his art and techniques and has done a number of outdoor shows\, group and individual exhibitions. \nPhilip’s process of making a rendering with the detail that he wants to have requires a significant amount of time. Sometimes he uses other media\, such as ink\, watercolors or pastels.\nPhilip is a member of the Color Pencil Society of America\, Grayslake Arts Alliance and the Lake County Art League.
