SUMMARY:Lake Forest Civic Orchestra Concert "Gloria"
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lake Forest Civic Orchestra for our Sunday concert series at Gorton Center.  The orchestra continues our season of celebration with Gloria. We mark our 35th anniversary season with a new work by Chicago-based composer Amos Gillespie. Brahms’s Variations on a Theme by Haydn is not only a wonderfully exuberant score\, but this experimentation in the orchestral medium led to the composition of his triumphant first symphony (which the orchestra will play in May).\nThe concert is anchored by a collaboration with Lake Forest High School Forester Singers and freshmen from the Select Group – Tenors and Basses who join Lake Forest’s orchestra for Vivaldi’s joyous Gloria.\nOur Program:\nGillespie – World Premier – The Names of Artemis\nBrahms – Variation on a Theme by Haydn\nVivaldi – Gloria \nTicket prices:\n$20/adult 18-65\n$10/senior 65 and older and students with an ID\nFree to children under 12\nFor more information or tickets visit:\nhttps://www.lakeforestcivicorchestra.org/concerts-tickets/p/gloria-march2024

SUMMARY:FAN: Splinters: Another Kind of Love Story
DESCRIPTION:Leslie Jamison\, Ph.D. has become one of our most beloved contemporary voices\, a scribe of the real\, the true\, the complex. She has been compared to Joan Didion and Susan Sontag\, acclaimed for her powerful thinking\, deep feeling\, and electric prose. But while Jamison has never shied away from challenging material—scouring her own psyche and digging into our most unanswerable questions across four books—Splinters: Another Kind of Love Story enters a new realm. \nIn her first memoir\, Jamison turns her unrivaled powers of perception on some of the most intimate relationships of her life: her consuming love for her young daughter\, a ruptured marriage once swollen with hope\, and the shaping legacy of her own parents’ complicated bond. In examining what it means for a woman to be many things at once—a mother\, an artist\, a teacher\, a lover—Jamison places the magical and the mundane side by side in surprising ways. The result is a work of nonfiction like no other\, an almost impossibly deep reckoning with the muchness of life and art\, and a book that grieves the departure of one love even as it celebrates the arrival of another. \nHow do we move forward into joy when we are haunted by loss? How do we claim hope alongside the harm we’ve caused? A memoir for which the very term tour de force seems to have been coined\, Splinters plumbs these and other pressing questions with writing that is revelatory to the last page\, full of linguistic daring and emotional acuity. \nJamison will be in conversation with Ashley C. Ford\, the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir\, Somebody’s Daughter. Ford is the former co-host of the HBO companion podcast Lovecraft Country Radio\, and the current host of Ben & Jerry’s Into The Mix. \nThis event suitable for youth 12+. It will be recorded and available on FAN’s website and YouTube channel. \nBONUS AFTER-HOURS EVENT: Attendees who purchase a copy of Splinters from FAN’s partner bookseller The Book Stall are invited to attend an AFTER-HOURS event hosted by Jamison and Ford that will start immediately after the webinar. Details on the webinar registration page.

SUMMARY:“Peter Pan Now Adventures” - Wed and Thurs
DESCRIPTION:In “Peter Pan Now Adventures\,” students pick a character from Gorton Drama Studio’s original play\, “Peter Pan Now” and help develop\, write and shoot original short films. If a student was in the production of “Peter Pan Now\,” she can play her original role or choose a new role. Students do not have to have been in the production of “Peter Pan Now” in order to be in the class and all students will work on multiple films and get the opportunity to portray multiple characters. \nFor example\, an actor who portrayed a lost kid in our play can try portraying Peter Pan. Or an actor who portrayed a pirate in our play can play a lost kid. An example of a short film we can develop\, write and shoot is: Tootles leads the lost kids to Mermaid Lagoon to retrieve a shark tooth that one of the mermaids stole from him. \nGuided by experienced instructors\, students master fundamental acting techniques such as hitting marks\, voice projection\, and character development\, while also delving into more nuanced aspects of performance\, like authentic relationships and believable behavior. Veterans and first timers are welcome in this class that provides a supportive space to grow\, learn\, and most importantly\, have fun. Join us at Gorton Drama Studio and unlock the magic of storytelling on screen. \nAges 9 – 14 Years  \nWednesdays & Thursdays 4:30 – 6:30 \nMarch 20 – May 16 \nNo Class March 27 & 28 \n8 classes- $400 \nAbout Our Artistic Director:\n \nJeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. SUMMARY:“Peter Pan Now Adventures” - Thurs
\nAges 9 – 14 Years  \nThursdays 4:30 – 6:30 \nMarch 21 – May 16 \nNo class March 28 \n8 classes- $400 \nAbout Our Artistic Director:\n \nJeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022.
