He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n \nAbout Our Artistic Director: Jeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. Students will have the opportunity to perform in an end-of-season spring studio recital. Community performance opportunities may also be available. Advanced students can prepare for local competitions. They can also audition for orchestra and band programs throughout the Chicagoland area. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and completed graduate studies at Northwestern University with renowned flutist Walfrid Kujala. A prizewinner in numerous national competitions\, she was a semifinalist in the 2005 Jean-Pierre Rampal Flute Competition in Paris. Ms. Johnson is a dedicated educator who has served as a masterclass clinician and professor emeritus at Lone Star College Montgomery. She currently maintains a private flute studio in Lake Forest\, Illinois\, where she teaches students of all levels\, and serves as Executive Director of the Houston Youth Chamber Orchestra.

DESCRIPTION:Let your little artist dive into the colorful world of mosaics! In this hands-on workshop\, children will design and create their very own mosaic coaster from start to finish. \nFirst\, young artists will choose from a variety of bright\, kid-friendly mosaic tiles. Then\, they’ll arrange different colors and shapes to create a pattern they love. They can mix\, match\, experiment\, and let their imaginations lead the way. \nOur instructor will guide children through each step of the mosaic-making process. Kids will learn how to arrange tiles and bring their ideas to life. They’ll also discover the basics of mosaic art while working at a comfortable pace. \nAs they create\, children will build important skills. Picking up and placing small tiles strengthens fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Planning a design encourages problem-solving and concentration. Plus\, choosing colors\, shapes\, and patterns gives every child a chance to express their creativity. \nThere’s no right or wrong way to design a mosaic. Each child can make something completely unique.
