This one-of-a-kind summer program invites high school students to explore the exciting world of video storytelling through a hands-on\, collaborative experience. \nOver 10 weeks\, participants will move through every stage of pre-production. Working in teams\, they’ll brainstorm story ideas\, write scripts\, plan shoots\, and prepare production materials. With support from media professionals and local alumni of the High School Media Collective\, students will gain real-world insight into how stories are brought to life on screen. \nThe final weekend offers a thrilling challenge—a 72-hour filmmaking sprint. During this fast-paced experience\, students will take on roles such as directing\, acting\, editing\, sound design\, and cinematography. They’ll produce a short film from start to finish\, gaining practical skills and a deeper understanding of how a creative team operates under pressure. \nIn addition to technical training\, students will walk away with a completed film project for their portfolio\, stronger communication skills\, and the confidence that comes from creating something meaningful. The Pre-Production phase starts 10 weeks before filming. DESCRIPTION:“Summer Camp” an original musical for children ages K-4th \nCelebrating the 40th anniversary of one of Mr. V.’s most beloved and enduring musicals for children!  Join us for Summer Camp\, a musical excursion into the north woods where kids arrive at fictional Camp Kisumo. Adventure and laughs await as the children doggedly persevere through four comfortless weeks while missing their parents – only to miss their beloved camp in the end. \nM-F\, June 23-27 \n 9 am-3 pm   \n$399 \nPerformance on Fri. June 27  1:00 pm \nCheck out footage from Mr. V’s class this spring. \nCostumes are provided by Gorton Drama Studio. \n \nBill Vaananen is an award-winning music educator and composer who has taught and directed elementary-aged students for over 45 years. Originally from Oklahoma\, “Mr. V.” was general music teacher at Wescott School in Northbrook for 37 years. He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n  \n\nInstructor Madison Kisst is an actor\, director\, and theatre teacher. She has taught for professional theater companies across the country and for the undergraduate acting program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Madison has extensive training in physical and classical theatre\, voice and movement\, and devising. As an actor\, some of her credits include: American Repertory Theater\, Lyric Repertory Company\, The Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville\, Utah Shakespeare Festival\, Idaho Shakespeare Festival\, Nevada Conservatory Theater\, and Santa Cruz Shakespeare. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama.
