Her design work is based in her training as an artist and as a therapist and is rooted in her deep belief that a home should be beautiful\, joyful and comfortable.   \nAs an artist\, Susan creates expressive abstract landscapes\, abstract color studies and large scale paintings of nostalgic items. Her color palette is bright and layered\, with each piece sharing a common theme of moments in time and memory. \nSusan grew up in the Washington\, DC area in a family of builders and creators and now lives and works on the North Shore of Chicago with her husband Jeremy\, son\, Emmett\, and Springer Spaniel\, Scarlett.

DESCRIPTION:Ready to take your painting to the next level?\nThis class is ideal for artists who already have some experience painting in Oil\, Acrylic\, Gouache\, or Pastel and are ready to grow their skills further. If you’ve been wanting to turn a photo into a painting or have started a piece but feel unsure about how to move forward\, this is the perfect opportunity to get expert guidance and renewed inspiration. \nEach student brings in either a reference photo or an unfinished painting to work on during class. From there\, artist and instructor Michael Latala provides hands-on\, individualized instruction to help you make confident artistic decisions. First\, he’ll show you how to evaluate your photo reference—guiding you in choosing what elements to include and what to leave out. Then\, through clear demonstrations\, he’ll help you resolve common issues like washed-out highlights or areas that have gone too dark to read. \nThroughout the class\, Michael gives each student personal attention. If you’d prefer to keep your canvas untouched\, he’s happy to demonstrate his suggestions digitally using Procreate on his iPad Pro. This digital approach allows you to visualize changes before applying them\, which can be especially helpful when exploring different color choices or compositional edits. \nImportantly\, this class is all about progress at your own pace. There’s no pressure to finish quickly. Instead\, you’re encouraged to slow down\, focus on what you’re learning\, and enjoy the process. DESCRIPTION:Most people experience stress\, difficulty focusing\, or anxiety at one time or another. Healing Mandalas are an excellent way to take care of ourselves. Creating a Mandala can help silence our inner critic and induce a calm and meditative state to aid in reducing anxiety\, stress\, and depression. \nAll supplies provided.  Ages 11+ \n \nThis class is free\, but spaces are limited and participants must pre-register.  \nCelebrating their tenth anniversary\, Art Impact Project is a local 501c(3) with a mission of enhancing emotional wellness through creative expression.  They partner with organizations such as schools\, treatment facilities\, libraries\, and other community spaces throughout Lake County\, to facilitate art programming with a focus on better mental health.  Providing a supportive\, small group setting\, Art Impact Project guides participant step-by-step through the creative process so everyone can experience the benefits of art. \nWant to take this class but can’t make this date? Art is therapeutic\, relaxing\, and helps improve fine motor skills\, hand-eye coordination\, problem-solving\, and creative thinking. Moreover\, creative expression boosts mood and may even help slow cognitive decline\, according to some research. \nMeet Your Instructor: Cheryl Steiger\nCheryl Steiger is a Chicago area artist and teacher. Cheryl grew up in Riverwoods\, IL. She studied fine and commercial art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In 1979\, she became a freelance illustrator\, also working on commissioned pieces and producing audio-visual shows\, cartooning and fashion illustration. Cheryl has been teaching art for the past 30 years at many Chicago institutions\, including The Art Center of Highland Park\, The Evanston Art Center and Edgebrook Chicago Public School. She shows her fine art locally and around the world. In the summer of 2007\, Cheryl participated in Chicago’s ecologically-themed Public Art Project\, Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet. Her small globe was on exhibit at The United Nations\, NY and The Kennedy Center\, and was purchased by the “Clinton Initiative”. The large globe is still being exhibited internationally.  \n “Creating art is my passion. Bringing my internal vision to the canvas to be shared is my greatest pleasure.”

Campers play with bold shapes and eye-catching patterns. Then\, we build depth and texture. Using collage\, stencils\, and layered materials\, artists add dimension and personality to every piece. \nAlong the way\, campers stretch their skills and try new approaches. Texture takes center stage\, encouraging them to think differently and create art that feels dynamic and alive. \nThis camp is a great fit for beginner to intermediate artists who are ready to explore painting in a supportive\, creative environment. \nWhat to bring: We provide all materials\, including canvas\, paints\, and brushes. DESCRIPTION:Camp registration opens on Monday\, February 2 at 10 am\nJewelry Design Camp: Create\, Shine & Showcase!\nGet ready to sparkle! In this hands-on jewelry design camp\, young creators design and make their own unique pieces from start to finish. \nThroughout the week\, campers learn from experienced young fashion designers. Instructors guide them as they work with polymer clay to create necklaces\, bracelets\, earrings\, and more. Campers mix colors\, shape designs\, and add personal details. Along the way\, they build real design skills and express their creativity. \nAt the end of the week\, campers show off their work in a fun fashion show. Family and friends are invited to celebrate their creativity and hard work. \nEach camper completes at least five original pieces to take home. The camp fee includes all materials and supplies. This camp is perfect for budding designers and hands-on makers alike. It blends fun\, fashion\, and artistic expression. \nNo prior experience is required. Just bring your imagination and enthusiasm! \nFor those students who are looking to attend more than one week of camp\, please note that each week will feature a different series of projects as well as new clay colors and designs to choose from.  \nAges 6 – 13 \n \nElena Victoria is a local fashion designer who has gone on to find her true passion in teaching youth how to design and sew their own clothing and jewelry through her program\, EV Fine Arts. With a little patience and creativity\, you can make just about anything! From simple patterns to playful decorations\, the possibilities are endless. \nFor this workshop\, bring a canvas or denim item to personalize. A tote bag\, jeans\, jacket\, hat\, or pouch all work wonderfully. Then\, Maggie will provide the wool\, felting needles\, and step-by-step instructions you need to add a pop of wooly whimsy to your favorite piece. \nFirst\, you’ll learn the basics of needle felting. Next\, you’ll experiment with colors\, textures\, and simple designs. Finally\, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind creation that is both charming and handmade. \nSo\, if you enjoy trying something new\, this class is for you! Needle felting is creative\, relaxing\, and just a little bit daring. Give this delightfully risky craft a try! \nAges 12 & Up! If you’ve been wanting to turn a photo into a painting or have started a piece but feel unsure about how to move forward\, this is the perfect opportunity to get expert guidance and renewed inspiration. \nEach student brings in either a reference photo or an unfinished painting to work on during class. From there\, artist and instructor Michael Latala provides hands-on\, individualized instruction to help you make confident artistic decisions. First\, he’ll show you how to evaluate your photo reference—guiding you in choosing what elements to include and what to leave out. Then\, through clear demonstrations\, he’ll help you resolve common issues like washed-out highlights or areas that have gone too dark to read. \nThroughout the class\, Michael gives each student personal attention. If you’d prefer to keep your canvas untouched\, he’s happy to demonstrate his suggestions digitally using Procreate on his iPad Pro. This digital approach allows you to visualize changes before applying them\, which can be especially helpful when exploring different color choices or compositional edits. \nImportantly\, this class is all about progress at your own pace. There’s no pressure to finish quickly. Instead\, you’re encouraged to slow down\, focus on what you’re learning\, and enjoy the process.
