SUMMARY:Band of Five (+ 4) Woodwind Celebration
DESCRIPTION:This season at Rendezvous is the first time we will have 8 musicians performing together. Deb Stevenson and Jennet Ingle\, oboe; Wagner Campos and Elizandro Garcia-Montoya\, clarinet; Jonathan Saylor and John Gaudette\, bassoon; Dan O’Connell and Anna Mayne\, horn. Our biggest Rendezvous Arts group yet! 2 oboes\, 2 clarinets\, 2 bassoons and 2 french horns!!! Here is your chance to see the woodwinds of the orchestra up close and personal! Together they will present to you one of Mozart’s own favorite compositions – his amazing C minor Serenade. The group will also play octets by Haydn and Beethoven. You’ll be intrigued by the way these very different composers can take the same basic group of instruments and make them sound unique through the different styles and color changes found in these works! \nFriday night concert timeline / Concessions for sale\, including beer & wine \n7:00-8:15 PM concert (no intermission)\n8:15-8:45 PM conversation with artists \n \nARTIST: Weriem With a passion for the performing arts\, an eye for detail\, and a love for historical elements\, Weriem likes to capture the theatricality of life. Colored pencils allow her to play with successive layers of pigments to add depth\, saturation and energy to her drawings. When she uses black ink only\, the striking contrast creates bold\, graphic compositions. In each piece\, she invites us to connect with our own imaginary theater\, with sometimes\, a soupçon of drama! \nWERIEM known as Meriem Bahri\, is a French and Tunisian artist praised for her gorgeous and evocative\, spectacular and sumptuous array of period-perfect costumes by the New York Times\, Wall Street Journal\, Chicago Tribune\, respectively. With a decade of experience designing costumes for live performances (including the Royal Swedish Opera\, the Boston Early Music Festival\, Haymarket Opera\, Opera Lafayette)\, her drawings have also been featured as projections during concerts\, CD covers\, and other commissioned illustrations. Prior to delving into the visual arts and relocating from France to her current home in Chicago\, Weriem earned a PhD in science from University de Lille. \nThis is part of the Rendezvous Arts Series

SUMMARY:FAN: Normal Broken: The Grief Companion for When It’s Time to Heal But You’re Not Sure You Want To
DESCRIPTION:None of us make it through life without experiencing loss that leaves us feeling broken. That’s what makes grief so normal. In Normal Broken: The Grief Companion for When It’s Time to Heal But You’re Not Sure You Want To\, award-winning writer and speaker Kelly Cervantes isn’t trying to tell you what to do\, how to feel\, or the right way to heal. She’s also not flinging sunny thoughts\, vibes\, and prayers at you. After losing her daughter to epilepsy\, she knows that grief is many things. It’s weird. It sucks. It’s all-encompassing. Something everyone will have to deal with. But never linear. Just as what we are grieving varies\, so do our journeys to process it. \nNormal Broken was born out of this desire to meet people where they are in their grief journeys\, to lend a hand\, or maybe to just sit in the dark with them. To acknowledge your brokenness and to feel broken together—never pressured to “move on” or “think positive.” \nCervantes is an advocate best known for her blog Inchstones\, where she shared the stress\, love\, and joy that came with parenting her medically complex daughter\, Adelaide. Since Adelaide’s passing\, Kelly has continued to write candidly about her arduous and\, at times\, contradictory grief journey. She is the current board chair for the nonprofit CURE Epilepsy and hosts their biweekly podcast\, Seizing Life\, where she interviews scientists\, doctors\, and individuals affected by epilepsy. Kelly currently resides in Maplewood\, NJ\, with her husband\, Miguel Cervantes (currently starring in Hamilton on Broadway)\, four children\, and two dogs. \nCervantes will be in conversation with Christie Tate (FAN ’21)\, a Chicago-based writer and essayist\, Tate is the New York Times bestselling author of the memoir Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life and the 2023 memoir B.F.F.– A Memoir of Friendship Lost and Found. \nThis event suitable for youth 12+. It will be recorded and available on FAN’s website and YouTube channel. \n \nBONUS AFTER-HOURS EVENT: Attendees who purchase a copy of Normal Broken from FAN’s partner bookseller The Book Stall are invited to attend an AFTER-HOURS event hosted by Cervantes and Tate that will start immediately after the webinar. Details on the webinar registration page.
