SUMMARY:After School Art Club with Lezlie
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a budding artist in the family? Give their creativity room to grow in this engaging after-school art class designed specifically for students in Grades 1–4! \nEach class is thoughtfully structured to balance artistic freedom with meaningful learning. We begin with a free-draw session\, allowing students time to warm up\, express themselves\, and get their creative energy flowing. From there\, we dive into the world of art history by introducing an “Artist of the Day”—a renowned or influential figure whose work provides the inspiration for that day’s project. \nStudents will explore various artistic movements\, mediums\, and styles from around the world\, helping them gain a broader understanding of art and its cultural significance. With guidance and encouragement\, they’ll create their own artwork inspired by the featured artist\, putting their personal spin on classic techniques while developing new skills and confidence. \nThe class wraps up with group clean-up\, an age-appropriate art discussion that encourages observation and expression\, and a fun “draw-a-long” activity to reinforce what they’ve learned in a playful and supportive way. \nMore than just an art class\, this is a space where young artists can explore\, reflect\, and connect with the wider world through creativity. It’s a perfect opportunity for self-expression\, experimentation\, and cultivating a lifelong appreciation for the arts and global perspectives.

SUMMARY:Mini Art & Craft Camp with Vee
DESCRIPTION:Mini Art & Craft Camp with Vee\nNo school? No problem! Join Vee for Mini Art & Craft camp!  Half or full day mini camps available. \nMornings: 3D Arts & Crafts. Mornings are about breaking free from flat\, basic artwork on paper and making pictures that truly come alive. We explore layering techniques that give canvases and drawings real depth\, texture and dimension — building up surfaces\, adding raised and mixed-media elements\, and learning how to lead the eye and shift focus so a piece has movement and a sense of place. \nAfternoons: The Creativity Hack. Afternoons are where we dive into how art actually works. We explore how something might look or be drawn\, and the clever\, playful “hacks” artists use to get the same striking effects — the shortcuts\, tricks and techniques that make a picture come alive. We experiment with abstract art techniques\, discover different ways to capture and reimagine what we see\, and pick up real skills that children can build on and carry into everything they make. \nAges 7 – 13

SUMMARY:Beginner Watercolor Pencil Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Unique Beauty of Watercolor Pencil \nWatercolor pencil is a versatile\, yet often overlooked\, medium. It combines the vibrant flow of watercolor with the precision of colored pencil. Because of this unique quality\, it opens the door to endless creative possibilities. In this fun and accessible course\, you’ll dive in and discover how to unlock its full potential step by step. \nThis class is designed for beginners as well as anyone curious to try something new. To begin\, you’ll explore the different types of watercolor pencils and papers. Next\, you’ll practice applying color both dry and wet. After that\, you’ll learn how to layer and blend effectively. Finally\, you’ll activate pigment with water to achieve luminous\, painterly effects. As you move through each stage\, you’ll see how the medium offers both expressive washes and fine detail – all with the stroke of a pencil. \nEach session will build on the last. First\, new techniques will be introduced. Then\, guided projects will give you the chance to practice them right away. Consequently\, your skills will grow consistently and your confidence will strengthen. By the end of the course\, you will have completed 2–3 finished renderings that showcase the versatility and beauty of watercolor pencil art. \nExperienced Artists Welcome \nIf you already have experience with watercolor pencils\, you’re encouraged to join as well. Instead of following the beginner projects\, you may choose to focus on a personal piece. Meanwhile\, I’ll provide feedback\, answer questions\, and offer individualized guidance. In this way\, you can refine your skills and take your work to the next level. \nUltimately\, this course will guide you through a journey of discovery. Step by step\, you’ll see how watercolor pencils can expand your creativity and become a powerful tool in your artistic practice. Therefore\, all levels are welcome! \n \nSupplies to be Purchased by the Participant\nCan be order thru Blicks Art Supply\, Amazon\, etc.\nArtist Grade Watercolor Pencils (have a good color selection 24+ colors\, does not have to be Prismacolor)\nMix Media Smooth Paper or a smooth Watercolor Paper (Hot Press)\nPencil Sharpener (manual or electric)\n#1 round Watercolor Brush*\n1/8″ Angle Shader Watercolor Brush*\nDrawing Board (the foam boards at Hobby Lobby work great)\n*NOTE: Having a selection of small/medium watercolor brushes is great. \n \nPhilip Schorn – P Schorn Studio – Botanical Color Pencil Artist His botanical renderings are not scientific studies of plant specimens. They are artistic interpretations of plants. He notices shapes\, light\, and shadows in the ground around him. He often focuses on a single detail – an individual leaf\, a flower\, or a small fragment of earth. In this way\, he brings those details to life. He has worked with colored pencil for several years and has taught the art for the past three. \nPhilip is currently teaching online from his home since March. He teaches online color pencil classes for other art studios/galleries\, private classes and Facebook demos. He has published two books featuring his art and techniques and has done a number of outdoor shows\, group and individual exhibitions. \nPhilip’s process of making a rendering with the detail that he wants to have requires a significant amount of time. Sometimes he uses other media\, such as ink\, watercolors or pastels.\nPhilip is a member of the Color Pencil Society of America\, Grayslake Arts Alliance and the Lake County Art League. His studio is located in Grayslake. \nEmail: phil@nullpschornstudio.com   FB: pschornstudio/

SUMMARY:After School Art Club with Carole
DESCRIPTION:After School Art Club with Carole\nCalling all young artists! After-school art is the perfect place for students to explore their creativity\, try new techniques\, and have fun making something all their own. \nIn this hands-on class\, students will discover the exciting world of art. Each week\, we will feature a different artist. Students will learn about that artist’s unique style\, ideas\, and techniques. Then\, they will use that inspiration to create an original piece of art. \nStudents will experiment with a variety of materials and creative processes. They may paint\, draw\, cut\, glue\, sculpt\, or build. Every project gives students a new way to express themselves. There is no need to make every piece look the same. We encourage students to make their own creative choices and let their personalities shine. \nAfter-school art offers more than a creative outlet. Art activities can help children strengthen fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Students will also practice visual-spatial thinking as they work with shapes\, colors\, patterns\, and space. Each project encourages problem-solving\, too. Students will make decisions\, test ideas\, and discover new ways to bring their artistic visions to life. \nMost importantly\, this class gives young artists a welcoming place to create. Students can build confidence as they experiment with new ideas and see what they can accomplish. They will have opportunities to share their work and celebrate the creativity of their classmates. \nArt can get messy\, and that is part of the fun! Please have your child wear old clothing or bring an apron or smock to class. \nCome create\, explore\, and get inspired with After-school art! \nFor grades K–3rd. \nAbout the Instructor\nCarole Pearlman’s lifelong fascination with creativity began as a child\, in a neighborhood art class\, where making art in the backyard was the only agenda for an entire summer. Many art classes later Carole completed a BFA in painting\, a MEd in Educational Therapy\, and an MA in Developmental Psychology. Integrating the disciplines of art\, education\, and psychology Carole developed The Joy of Creativity Art program. Carole works as a facilitator of creativity with students ages 4 to 84! Through her teaching\, research\, and daily practice\, she believes that being creative is an essential part of a balanced life. Carole is a professional artist and certified teacher.

SUMMARY:Emily Catalano
DESCRIPTION:Sharp\, Smart Stand-Up with Emily Catalano\nEmily Catalano brings her smart\, dry\, and quietly devastating stand-up to Gorton for a night of comedy that sneaks up on you\, then hits twice as hard. She’s a Los Angeles–based comedian who made her late-night debut on CONAN. Since then\, she’s built a devoted following through viral clips that showcase her distinct voice and unhurried delivery. \nEmily finds the humor in the details. She takes her time. She draws you in. Then she flips everyday moments into sharp\, unexpected punchlines. Her jokes don’t chase laughs. They build\, simmer\, and surprise. That approach has earned her recognition from Time Out LA as a “Comic to Watch” and praise from Vulture\, which noted\, “They hit especially hard because they surprise you twice.” \nShe explores social norms\, small annoyances\, and the quiet absurdities of modern life. Her comedy feels observant and personal. It’s like hearing someone say exactly what you’ve been thinking. She’s clever without being flashy and confident without being loud. \nWe’re excited to welcome Emily to our stage for a night of thoughtful\, sharply written stand-up. If you love subtle humor and smart comedy\, this one’s for you. Grab a seat\, settle in\, and enjoy a performance where timing makes all the difference. \nKate Kindcaid- Opener Kate Kincaid is a Chicago-based comedian with a bold\, high-energy style. Her writing is sharp and her perspective is playful. She’s performed at clubs and festivals across the country. She also regularly opens for top touring comedians. Kate brings quick wit and an engaging presence to every show.\nThis show is for mature audiences.

SUMMARY:Everything Can Be Art with Vee Gunn
DESCRIPTION:What if a chipped teacup\, a ribbon\, an old shirt and a handful of beads could become something wonderful? At our after-school club\, that’s exactly the idea we play with:\, everything can be art — and art can be everything. \nEach week\, children explore a world of mixed-media materials — up-cycled clothing and fabrics\, pre-loved crockery\, beads\, buttons\, ribbons and more — transforming unexpected materials into artworks and keepsakes they’re proud of. Every session begins with a friendly guided lesson so no one ever feels stuck\, then opens up into plenty of room to experiment\, make choices\, and follow their own imagination. There’s no single “right” way to do it\, and that’s the whole point. \nOur club is built around a relaxed\, encouraging atmosphere where mess is welcome and every idea is a good one. Along the way\, children build real confidence — not just in making things\, but in trusting their own creativity — and they start to see the world a little differently\, spotting possibility and beauty in the most unexpected\, everyday objects. \nIt’s creative\, it’s hands-on\, it’s a little bit magical — and it gently plants big ideas about imagination\, resourcefulness and looking after our planet by giving old things new life. Your child will leave each week with something they made themselves\, and a growing belief that they are an artist. \nNo experience needed. No pressure to be “good.” Just bring curiosity — we’ll supply the rest. \nAges 7 – 13

Peach Jam brings the spirit of the Allman Brothers Band to Gorton on Friday\, October 16 | 7:30 pm. And from the first note\, you’ll feel the groove. \nPeach Jam is a collective of some of the best musicians Chicago has to offer. Formed in 2022\, the band celebrates the music of the iconic Allman Brothers Band with passion\, precision and plenty of improvisation. In other words\, this isn’t just a tribute show. It’s a full-on jam experience. \nFirst\, the sound. Then the energy. And finally the feeling that you’ve stepped straight into a classic night at the Fillmore East. \nThe band brings together members of Chicago favorites Cornmeal\, Terrapin Flyer\, Old Shoe\, Helping Phriendly Orchestra and the Brooklyn Charmers. Together they create a cosmic gumbo of hot jams\, tight grooves\, soaring vocal harmonies and down-home blues. The result is rich\, soulful and built to move a room. \nExpect extended guitar solos and deep grooves. Expect the kind of musical chemistry that only happens when great players share a stage. \nAnd of course\, expect the classics. The songs that helped define Southern rock. The melodies that fans have loved for decades. Plus the improvisational spirit that made the Allman Brothers Band legendary in the first place. \nSo grab a friend. Or bring the whole crew. Either way\, settle in and let the music take over. \nAs Peach Jam likes to say\, “People can you feel it? Love is everywhere!” And on this night at Gorton\, you just might feel it too. \nJoin us for an evening of unforgettable music\, great company and timeless sound.
