It is a monthly storytelling open mic in an enthusiastic\, supportive environment free from pressure\, judgment\, or scoring. No experience is necessary to participate. All are welcome to speak or simply listen. Arrive at 7:15 to sign up for a spot\, and when your name is called\, participants will have up to 7 minutes to tell/read/tap dance any personal story/fiction/essay on proper flossing they’d like. All language and content is acceptable except for hate speech. No cover charge. Beer\, wine and non alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Hosted by Elizabeth Brown and Jasmin Rodriguez \nAbout Your Host \n  \n \nJasmin Rodriguez is a trained actress with over 9 years of stage\, commercial\, film\, storytelling experience. Most recently she completed commercial’s for Malman Law and Spirit Juice. She has worked  in several independent films\, such as “Faithful Disappointment’s”\, Market Value” and the TV true crime series “American Greed”. She completed her training at Second City\, Vagabond\, Sarantos Studios\, Wheaton Drama\, and Gorton Drama Studio. Jasmin is a dedicated actress and hard worker who is constantly looking to improve her talents. She enjoys nature walks by the lake\, bike riding\, yoga and travels to Europe.   \n \nSuzie Garfield expects everyone to have stories (not just a story) to tell. As for her own background: She’s raised her 2 sons to adulthood. She’s programmed computers\, managed business projects\, learned as much as she could about other stuff\, taught as much of it as she could get to interest other people\, and always—always—told the stories about any and all of it. Now\, as a retiree from the conventional workforce\, an empty nester\, a consumer of food\, opera\, theater\, museums\, the visual arts\, and miscellaneous other adventures\, and a perpetual storyteller\, she keeps looking for and finding the next challenge\, the next thing to learn\, do\, and teach\, and the next story. \n\n  \n\n \nAfter teaching studio art and art history in high school and colleges\, Lisa Parr opened and still runs her business internationally restoring Historic Landmark antique carousels\, speaking and writing articles on them and her specialty of original paint. Additional application of her skills is for legal work\, court verifying and identifying carousel figures for insurance\, damage\, and theft for private collectors\, as well as appraisals for museums\, art dealers\, and auctions. In connection with carousel art\, Lisa pursues research in early Celtic design and mythology on site in the upper isles of Scotland. Many early Celtic and pre-Christian designs are reproduced on carousels and carousel animals. Her interest in ancient and contemporary mythology has led her to research mountain storytelling\, initiating more travel and recent storytelling\, herself. Lisa has been telling Highland Park\, Lake Forest\, and several venues in Chicago. For fun\, Lisa also restores antique wood toys and sports cars\, which she drives with vigor and nostalgia.​

DESCRIPTION:Safety Town II registration is now closed.\nInterested in being a Safety Town Counselor? Sign up here!\nLimited to one camp registration per family online. Please call Gorton 847-234-6060 to register siblings and twins/triplets.\n\nMonday\, Tuesday\, Thursday 12:30-4 pm. (August 5th\, 6th\, & 8th. No camp on Lake Forest Day)\nThis camp is for 8-10 year-olds only. In order to register for this camp\, your child must be between the ages of 8-10 at the time of camp\, with no exceptions.\n Have a 5-7 year old? Register for Safety Town Majors Camp 5-7 years here!\n\nOur Safety Town Commanders Camp is modeled after the original Safety Town\, but with a curriculum built for the next level\, ages 8-10. The focus of this camp will include a review of the original Safety Town (Majors) and will go in-depth with experts in areas ranging from fire safety to internet safety and beyond. Topics will cover many categories pertinent to this age group including what to do if your alarm goes off\, gun safety\, walking home alone\, falls\, poison/medicine safety\, bullying/cyber bullying and mindfulness which includes yoga.\n\nCamp is dynamic and interactive\, with various what-if scenarios being played out and group discussions moderated by a certified teacher. Children will learn everything from how to use a fire extinguisher to how to navigate safely in today’s cyber world and more! \nWant to be a Safety Town sponsor? Contact Ann Wildman for more information. \n\nWe are proud to have the following experts teaching our camp:\n\n\n\nLake Forest Police Department: LFPD will teach the kids safety awareness and self defense in a fun/interactive way! They’ll creatively cover topics such as gun safety\, bike and skateboard safety\, what to do when you are home alone and cyber safety/online stranger danger.\n\n\n\n\n\nLake Forest Fire Department:  LFFD will teach kids about everything from fireworks safety to first aid\, to even demonstrating a sprinkler system with a real-live fire in the safe confines of their smokehouse. This prompts a discussion about home fire prevention and escape plannning. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nK9 Reading Buddies of the Northshore: K9 Reading Buddies of the Northshore will bring their therapy dogs on site and teach the campers all about pet safety! Topics covered will include what to do if a scary or unknown dog approaches and the do’s and don’ts around dogs.\n\n\n\n\n\nOperation Lifesaver: Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions\, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks. Operation Lifesaver will be providing our kids with rail safety education!\n\n  \n  \n  \n \n Yoga with Areta: Our resident yoga instructor will teach about the importance of practicing mindfulness and grounding. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nAmerican Red Cross: The American Red Cross will be focusing on fire emergency preparedness and readiness at home. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nWelcome Wellness with Mollie Lawniczak: Mollie from Welcome Wellness will be presenting on nutrition! \n  \n  \n  \n \nLFOLA will teach our kids all about outdoor safety\, tick safety\, poisonous plants that are indigenous to our prairies\, and why it is so important to get off our screens and get outdoors! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFit2Defend Academy: This will involve an interactive session where kids learn about self-defense and get to practice moves with each other and an instructor.
