The festival will screen more than 134 films\, including 17 feature-length films and over 120 short films from around the world. \nGorton Center is proud to be hosting the closing night feature film\, “Speak.”!\nABOUT THE FILM \nLOGLINE \nFive top-ranked high school oratory students spend a year crafting spellbinding spoken word performances with the dream of winning one of the world’s largest and most intense public speaking competitions. \nLONG SYNOPSIS \nSPEAK follows five of the nation’s top teenage speech competitors\, capturing the euphoria of victory and the devastation of defeat as they craft and perform original oratories over the course of a 9-month season. DESCRIPTION:Echo In The Canyon celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA’s Laurel Canyon in the mid-60s as folk went electric and The Byrds\, The Beach Boys\, Buffalo Springfield and The Mamas and the Papas gave birth to the California Sound. It was a moment (1965 to 1967) when bands came to LA to emulate The Beatles and Laurel Canyon emerged as a hotbed of creativity and collaboration for a new generation of musicians who would soon put an indelible stamp on the history of American popular music. \nFeaturing Jakob Dylan\, the film explores the Laurel Canyon scene via never-before-heard personal details behind the bands and their songs and how that music continues to inspire today.
