SUMMARY:Salsarobics
DESCRIPTION:Join Esther Gutierrez Sloan for a fun salsarobics workout that happens each Sunday! The major distinction of this program is that the joy\, fun\, and discovery are ongoing!! \nThe option of varying intensity levels from low to moderate to high is a choice that is ongoing throughout the class\, while moving to a myriad of enticing Latin\, Caribbean\, Spaniard and African beats. Low-impact and high-impact options are also presented to choose from. \n-Esther offers an experience that averages  4000-4200 steps with varying degrees of intensity. \n-Total Body Training (TBT) Systems Methodology is used to maintain proper postural alignment and ensure muscular conditioning. \n-Pheripheral Heart Action (PHA) training methodology is used to work with aerobic intensity which is  optional and challenged based on the level that the participant chooses to execute the rhythmic steps \n-Using inline motion protocol\, moving from one end of the room to the other end makes the participant effectively and functionally use steps\, while working on balance and coordination by changing direction {lateral\, diagonal\, front\, backward). \nProprioceptive Neurological Facilitation (PNF) stretching is performed at the end of the session. \nSALSArobics was created by Colombian-born Esther Gutierrez Sloan.  Esther has performed SALSArobics on national television and local television in Illinois\, California\, Florida and New York. \nEsther has led SALSArobics classes\, exhibitions\, workshops and presentations at fitness conventions\, health clubs\, schools\, fundraising events\, ethnic festivals\, internationally and nationally. \nEsther was inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in 2010 in recognition of her pioneering efforts to introduce authentic Latin rhythms and dance steps into aerobic exercise in 1989 when she created SALSArobics.

SUMMARY:New Media Summer Stories: High School
DESCRIPTION:New Media Summer Stories Experience: A Filmmaking Program for Teens\nCalling all aspiring filmmakers\, storytellers\, and creatives! This one-of-a-kind summer program invites high school students to explore the exciting world of video storytelling through a hands-on\, collaborative experience. \nOver 10 weeks\, participants will move through every stage of pre-production. Working in teams\, they’ll brainstorm story ideas\, write scripts\, plan shoots\, and prepare production materials. With support from media professionals and local alumni of the High School Media Collective\, students will gain real-world insight into how stories are brought to life on screen. \nThe final weekend offers a thrilling challenge—a 72-hour filmmaking sprint. During this fast-paced experience\, students will take on roles such as directing\, acting\, editing\, sound design\, and cinematography. They’ll produce a short film from start to finish\, gaining practical skills and a deeper understanding of how a creative team operates under pressure. \nIn addition to technical training\, students will walk away with a completed film project for their portfolio\, stronger communication skills\, and the confidence that comes from creating something meaningful. The program fosters not just creativity but also collaboration\, resilience\, and problem-solving—skills essential to any creative career. \nOpen to high school students ages 14 to 18\, this experience is perfect for beginners and seasoned storytellers alike. Whether you’re curious about filmmaking or already passionate about media\, this is your chance to grow\, create\, and connect. \nAbout the Program\nNow in its 8th year\, New Media Summer Stories gives students the chance to collaborate with peers who love filmmaking. Together\, they produce a meaningful short film that follows the guidelines of the All American High School Film Festival’s Complete Experience. \nEach student takes on a role in Pre-Production\, Production\, or Post-Production\, depending on their interests and experience. The Pre-Production phase starts 10 weeks before filming. At that time\, organizers share the prompt and rules with all participants. \nStudents form a writing team\, and they select a producer and director based on experience and creative vision. They also organize departments for each stage of production: \n \n

SUMMARY:Kundalini Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Kundalini Yoga: The Yoga of Awareness\nKundalini yoga combines postures\, conscious breathing\, mantra\, music\, and meditation. Each class usually starts with an opening chant to help you “tune in.” Then\, you’ll do a warm-up that focuses on the spine. After that\, the class moves into a series of postures called a “kriya.” These postures use specific breathwork and often include chanting. Finally\, the class ends with relaxation or meditation\, all designed to activate your “Kundalini energy.” These practices help balance your body and mind\, allowing you to experience clarity and the beauty of your soul. \nEvery class focuses on a specific theme to support your body and mind in different ways. Therefore\, join us and discover a practice that helps you tap into your unlimited potential. \nYou don’t need any previous yoga experience to participate. Bringing a mat and blanket will make you more comfortable in class. \nJennifer is a Holistic Occupational Therapist. She specializes in healing methods like reiki\, meditation\, ancestral clearing\, craniosacral therapy\, and energy healing. Jennifer loves helping people connect with their unlimited potential. SUMMARY:Tai Chi With Ken Ning
DESCRIPTION:Sign up for Gorton’s Tai Chi class and join Ken Ning each Saturday to learn and practice Tai Chi. Ken’s Tai Chi class is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners. \nTai Chi is an inclusive form of exercise that anyone can do\, whether you are in peak shape\, or have limited mobility. Despite its slow pace\, Tai Chi is a valuable exercise for all ages\, read about the health benefits of Tai Chi below. Dress comfortably and be prepared to have fun in Ken’s Tai Chi class. \nHealth Benefits of Tai Chi \nTai Chi has numerous health benefits. It is good for balance\, flexibility\, and stress – regular Tai Chi practice can improve overall physical health and well-being. In fact\, Harvard Health suggests Tai Chi might be “…the perfect activity for the rest of your life.” \nAs a form of exercise\, researchers in Toronto found Tai Chi is equivalent to brisk walking. So\, instead of worrying about your steps (how boring)\, join Ken’s Tai Chi class and have some more fun while you exercise. \nUnlike other forms of exercise\, Tai Chi movements are performed with relaxed muscles and a focus on deep breathing. Slow and gentle\, Tai Chi can improve blood flow\, balance\, and relaxation. Each Tai Chi pose flows into the next with circular\, continuous movements. This helps improve your balance and flexibility without putting strain on muscles and joints. \nTai Chi is also a very social activity\, commonly practiced in groups that rhythmically synchronize slow movements with deep breathing. Like meditation\, Tai Chi creates a calm and focused mind and can create a state of mindfulness. \nTai Chi also benefits emotional well-being and mental health. Regular Tai Chi practice can improve concentration\, physical self-awareness\, and create a sense of inner peace. Tai chi is a great exercise for relieving stress and has been shown to benefit hypertension and high blood pressure. \nWhat is Tai Chi? \nTai Chi is a Chinese traditional exercise that blends martial arts’ movement with meditation. Dating back a thousand years\, Tai Chi remains a popular activity in China and around the world. \nTai Chi is a series of slow\, choreographed martial arts movements and poses. Tai Chi poses are circular and continuous\, with an emphasis on smooth transitions and maintaining a centered and grounded posture. Tai Chi poses mimic the movements of animals or nature\, such as flowing water or a bird in flight.  \nKen has been practicing martial arts for 27 years\, and started Tai Chi training in 1996 with Sifu Dale Washington\, Sifu Ban Toy in 2000 and Grand Master Yang Jun in 2006. He has been practicing Tai Chi for 21 years and teaching Tai Chi for 12 years. In 2016\, he received a Gold Eagle certificate from Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association. certificate. Ken is also one of Grand Master Yang Jun’s Disciples for the Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan. He teaches Kickboxing and Full-contact Martial Arts teacher and is certified by Ng Family Martial Arts Association.
