SUMMARY:Introduction to Reiki
DESCRIPTION:Discover the Healing Power of Reiki \nReiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that supports physical\, emotional\, and mental balance. In this introductory class\, you will learn foundational techniques for self-care\, stress reduction\, and deep relaxation. The word Rei means “Universal life” and Ki means “energy”—so Reiki literally translates to Universal Life Force Energy. \nA Path to Self-Discovery and Healing \nFor many\, Reiki becomes more than just a wellness practice. It can be a spiritual journey\, helping individuals connect more deeply with universal energy and themselves. Taking this class can expand your spiritual practice and offer valuable insights into your emotional and energetic well-being. \nDuring this workshop\, you’ll explore the basics of energy work and consider whether you’d like to pursue further training. This session is perfect for those curious about energy healing and interested in supporting their own health. \nIf you’re looking for one-on-one guidance\, Melissa is also available for private lessons. You can contact her directly at melissamactaggart@nullsbcglobal.net. \nMeet Your Instructor: Melissa MacTaggart \nMelissa MacTaggart is a certified Reiki practitioner and master teacher. She studied the traditional Usui methodology\, the oldest form of Reiki practice. Her training took place at Zaanti Reiki and Sat Nam Yoga in Chicago. \nIn 2018\, she founded Blossom and Bee Reiki. Since then\, she has led workshops in both Los Angeles and Chicago. Melissa’s passion for the mind-body connection began in her teenage years\, and she has explored many forms of energy healing. Reiki quickly became her favorite modality. She describes it as a radiant\, peaceful practice that flows through you and radiates outward. \nMelissa’s joy lies in helping others find balance and healing through energy work. Her mantra says it all: “Let’s move energy together.”

SUMMARY:Turning Teen: Body Basics for Girls
DESCRIPTION:Turning Teen is here for #GirlMoms\, #GirlDads\, and any other trusted adult in a young person’s life. We know it can be hard to talk with a girl about puberty. Or sexual or mental health. And other issues relating to her body. After all\, many of our parents found it hard\, too. Some of us never learned how to discuss – without secrecy\, embarrassment\, or worse\, shame – what it means to turn into a teen. \nWe can fix that. Turning Teen has the support and guidance you need. Interactive classes and workshops\, offered in person or online\, provide age-appropriate\, medically accurate information in an engaging and fun setting. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn about female anatomy\, puberty\, body changes\, body safety\, and more! Turning Teen offers interactive pediatrician-developed educational workshops that are fun\, modern\, and medically accurate! \nFor girls 8+ (who haven’t started puberty yet or are in the early stages) and their parent/trusted adult. \nTurning Teen\, founded by Dr. Lisa Klein and Dr. Carrie Leff\, helps families talk openly about puberty\, bodies\, and sex. Our programs\, led by medical and mental health professionals\, provide accurate\, age-appropriate information to make these conversations more comfortable for kids and their caregivers.   \nDr. Jessica Reggi is Chicagoland’s Turning Teen board-certified pediatrician. She practiced clinical pediatrics throughout Chicago for about eight years before transitioning to nonprofit leadership. She is passionate about the intersection of health and education and has facilitated trainings about vaccines\, vaping\, and more for school districts\, community organizations\, and health champions across the country.

SUMMARY:Approaches to End of Life Care and Grief Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Discussing Death\nDying Well sparks honest\, engaging conversations about death and dying. This seminar allows participants to examine how society talks about – and often avoids – the end of life. Other topics include gaps in our care systems and the definition and use of palliative and hospice care. \nYou will learn to navigate death as a unique\, personal process while acquiring tools to make meaningful end-of-life decisions. \nThis seminar welcomes anyone ready to face mortality with clarity and courage and includes those living with serious illness\, loved ones supporting someone at the end of life\, and anyone preparing their own care with intention. \nKey Questions We Will Explore\n\nHow can we navigate the death of a loved one with understanding and compassion? And how can we manage the emotions that follow?\nIn turn\, how might we envision and honor our own dying process?\nFurthermore\, what does a “good death” mean? How can we shape it to reflect our values?\nFinally\, how can we uphold what matters most – personally and culturally – as someone nears the end of life?\n\nThis is not a therapy session. Instead\, it is a candid\, interactive discussion. We will examine the physical and emotional processes of dying. By creating a space for open exploration\, participants will leave feeling empowered. They will approach end-of-life decisions with greater clarity\, confidence\, and compassion. \n \nLara N. Dotson-Renta\, PhD is a longtime writer\, educator and scholar of languages (Spanish and French). She is also a 500hr RYT yoga instructor with trauma informed yoga training through The Veteran’s Yoga Project and children’s yoga training from Full of Joy Yoga in CT. She is also a trained death doula through INELDA (The International End of Life Doula Association). SUMMARY:Yoga for Grief & Stress Release
DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED. PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR RESCHEDULED DATES.\nYoga for Grief & Stress Release\nGrief and stress don’t just live in the mind – they also take root in the body. They often show up as tight shoulders\, heavy fatigue\, headaches\, or even chronic pain. Over time\, these emotions can become trapped within us\, influencing how we move\, breathe\, and feel. As Dr. Bessel van der Kolk reminds us\, “the body keeps the score.” In other words\, our bodies remember what our minds try to forget. Therefore\, true healing must include both body and mind working together. \nIn this extended yoga class\, you’ll gently slow down and reconnect with yourself. First\, you’ll be guided through a mindful\, slow flow designed to help you move with intention. Then\, as you settle into each long hold\, you’ll begin to release tension and make space for calm. Gradually\, you’ll notice how the body softens\, the breath deepens\, and the nervous system begins to unwind. Step by step\, you’ll learn to listen to your body’s cues and respond with kindness. \nThe Magic of Breathwork\nFurthermore\, breathwork will play a central and powerful role. By focusing on steady\, conscious breathing\, you’ll discover how the rhythm of the breath can quiet the mind\, regulate the body’s stress response\, and restore a sense of safety. In addition\, restorative poses will invite deep rest – allowing your body to reset from the inside out. During these still moments\, you’ll find that your body naturally begins to let go of what no longer serves it. \nThis trauma-aware yoga class welcomes everyone. Whether you are a caregiver\, navigating grief\, recovering from trauma\, or simply seeking peace\, this class offers support and renewal. You don’t need any prior yoga experience – only a willingness to show up\, breathe\, and be present. \nAs the class unfolds\, you’ll gradually cultivate greater self-awareness and compassion for your body’s wisdom. By the end\, you’ll likely feel grounded\, lighter\, and more at ease. Ultimately\, you’ll discover that healing doesn’t always require words; instead\, it often begins with a single breath\, a gentle stretch\, and a safe place to move and rest. \nSo come as you are. Here\, you’ll find a space to release\, restore\, and reconnect – one mindful moment at a time. SUMMARY:Good Grief Pet Loss
DESCRIPTION:Coping with the Loss of a Pet\nJoin Jessica from the Animal Hospital of West Lake Forest for a heartfelt session on understanding pet loss. This event is for anyone grieving a pet or supporting someone who is. \nPets are more than animals—they are family\, companions\, and sources of comfort. Losing them brings deep grief that’s often overlooked or misunderstood. Jessica will explain why this loss feels so intense and why it’s different from other types of grief. \nNavigating the Emotions\nPet loss can trigger many emotions\, including sadness\, guilt\, loneliness\, and anger. These feelings are valid and real. Jessica will help participants better understand these reactions and explore the emotional impact of losing a beloved pet. Mourning a pet can be difficult in a world that may not fully acknowledge that loss. Jessica will talk about the lack of societal support and the importance of recognizing the pet-owner bond. \nFinding Healing and Offering Support\nThis session offers tools and guidance for healing. Jessica will share strategies to help you move through grief and support others on their journey. Whether you’re personally grieving or want to be there for someone else\, you’ll leave with insight and compassion. \nEveryone Is Welcome\nAll pet lovers are invited to attend. This session creates a safe\, understanding space to honor your pet’s memory and learn how to cope with loss from someone who truly understands. \nJessica is a CVT who has served the Lake Forest and surrounding communities at the Animal Hospital of West Lake Forest since 2004.  She is a wife and mother of 4 with 4 dogs of her own. She is passionate about helping navigate the various aspects of pet loss.

SUMMARY:Mahjong 102 with Windy City Mahjong
DESCRIPTION:Mahjong Workshop for Intermediate/Players with an Understanding of Fundamentals\nThis “guided play” class is ideal for players who know the basics of American Mahjong and want to strengthen their skills. We keep the group small to ensure steady table time. You get personalized guidance\, real gameplay practice\, and clear\, constructive feedback. \nFirst\, we reinforce the fundamentals. Then we shift into strategy. You’ll practice defensive play and learn to read your opponents. You’ll refine your tile selection\, timing\, and overall decision-making. Each round adds focused tips and gentle instruction. These moments help you think ahead\, evaluate risk\, and build confidence. \nAs the class moves forward\, your game becomes more intentional and more intuitive. By the end\, you’ll feel more confident and more strategic. You’ll also enjoy the lively\, social rhythm of playing with others who share your enthusiasm for this classic game. \nCaroline Larew:  \nCaroline Larew is an American Mahjong instructor in the northern suburbs of Chicago and the founder of  Windy City Mahjong. Drawn to the game for its blend of strategy and camaraderie\, she loves how it offers both a mental challenge and a reason to spend time with friends. \nCaroline brings a strong professional foundation to Windy City Mahjong\, shaped by years in finance and investing. After earning her MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business\, she built a career in private equity before an unexpected breast cancer diagnosis led her to rethink her priorities. Now healthy and cancer-free\, Caroline has found renewed purpose in teaching and building community through Mahjong — a space where strategy\, connection\, and joy intersect. \nA mother of three\, she can often be found cruising around the suburbs in her minivan full of kids\, on the pickleball court\, sharing coffee with friends\, or hunting for hidden gems at estate sales.

SUMMARY:Approaches to End of Life Care and Grief Seminar
DESCRIPTION:THIS SESSION HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED. \nDiscussing Death\nDying Well sparks honest\, engaging conversations about death and dying. \nDying Well welcomes anyone ready to face mortality with clarity and courage. This includes those living with serious illness\, loved ones supporting someone at the end of life\, and anyone preparing their own care with intention. \nKey Questions We Will Explore\n\nHow can we navigate the death of a loved one with understanding and compassion? And how can we manage the emotions that follow?\nIn turn\, how might we envision and honor our own dying process?\nFurthermore\, what does a “good death” mean? How can we shape it to reflect our values?\nFinally\, how can we uphold what matters most – personally and culturally – as someone nears the end of life?\n\nThis seminar is not a therapy session. She is interested in helping others live life more fully and intentionally. \nShe resides in Lake Bluff with her family.

SUMMARY:Death Café
DESCRIPTION:Death Café\nPull up a chair\, pour a warm cup of tea\, and enjoy a slice of cake. At a Death Café\, people – often complete strangers – come together to talk openly about death. At first\, it might sound unusual. Yet once the conversation begins\, something shifts. People start to relax\, laugh\, and connect. The simple act of naming what many avoid opens the door to deeper living. \nOur purpose is simple: to increase awareness of death so we can make the most of life. When we face mortality directly\, we often find more gratitude\, courage\, and clarity. Instead of pushing death aside\, we bring it into the light – and\, in doing so\, we invite more meaning into every moment. \nA Place for Honest Conversation\nUnlike a grief support group or counseling session\, a Death Café isn’t about fixing or healing. Rather\, it’s about conversation. It’s a space where curiosity replaces fear and where everyone’s perspective matters. As a death doula\, I’ll offer a gentle prompt or question to spark dialogue. From there\, the discussion flows naturally. Sometimes it’s serious. Other times it’s surprisingly light. Either way\, it’s always honest and alive. \nMoreover\, the Death Café welcomes every faith\, philosophy\, and worldview. Differences are embraced\, and respect anchors our exchange. You can speak\, listen\, or simply reflect – whatever feels right for you. \nBy the end\, most people leave with a sense of connection and renewal. Talking about death doesn’t diminish life – it deepens it. So come for the tea\, stay for the conversation\, and walk away seeing life with fresh eyes. \nCake\, coffee and tea are always served! SUMMARY:Divorcing with Dignity
DESCRIPTION:Are you or someone you know contemplating a divorce?  This workshop will help you to understand the best options for you and your family. If a couple can communicate and be fair and reasonable\, divorce mediation is a path that allows a couple to make 100% of their own decisions about parenting\, financial and property divisions\, child support and alimony\, while allowing them to greatly minimize the negative impact of their divorce on their most valuable assets\, their children. \nMediation is also the least costly and quickest way to get through a divorce in a less stressful manner.  In this session\, you will learn about divorce mediation\, what it is\, how it works\, what it requires\, and why it is the healthiest and least expensive way to divorce. \nIf you cannot attend in person\, you can contact Michael Cohen through his website at michaelsmediation.com to meet 1:1 to review this same information in a confidential manner. \nMichael Cohen is a divorce mediator in Lake Forest who is dedicated to helping families get through the stressful process of a divorce in the healthiest way for the couple and for their children.
