Practitioner Joi Hunt plays a variety of instruments to create a sonic environment that envelops participants – including crystal singing bowls\, Tibetan singing bowls\, gongs\, chimes\, and other sound-making tools. \nThe vibrations and frequencies produced by the instruments in a sound bath are believed to have a positive effect on the body and mind. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an original musical celebration of the cinematic chiller thrillers of yesteryear\, just in time for Halloween!  Participants will travel back in time to 1961\, when a double feature cost only a quarter\, and classic movie characters like Dracula\, The Mummy\, Godzilla\, and King Kong appeared on the silver screen.  There will be buzzing surprises\, fun frights\, and sheer delights for all! \nSaturdays\n9 am to 11 am\nSeptember 21 to October 26\nPerformance on Saturday\, October 26 at 10 a.m.\n1st through 4th grade \nCheck out footage from Mr. V’s recent class. \n\n \nBill Vaananen is an award-winning music educator and composer who has taught and directed elementary-aged students for over 45 years. Originally from Oklahoma\, “Mr. V.” was general music teacher at Wescott School in Northbrook for 37 years. He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n \nAbout Our Artistic Director: Jeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Art is an incredibly therapeutic activity\, it is relaxing\, and benefits fine motor skills\, hand-eye coordination\, problem-solving and creative thinking skills. She studied fine and commercial art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In 1979\, she became a freelance illustrator\, also working on commissioned pieces and producing audio-visual shows\, cartooning and fashion illustration. Cheryl has been teaching art for the past 30 years at many Chicago institutions\, including The Art Center of Highland Park\, The Evanston Art Center and Edgebrook Chicago Public School. She shows her fine art locally and around the world. In the summer of 2007\, Cheryl participated in Chicago’s ecologically-themed Public Art Project\, Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet. Her small globe was on exhibit at The United Nations\, NY and The Kennedy Center\, and was purchased by the “Clinton Initiative”. The large globe is still being exhibited internationally.  \n “Creating art is my passion. Bringing my internal vision to the canvas to be shared is my greatest pleasure.”

DESCRIPTION:Sound bath meditation is a practice that involves immersing oneself in soothing and harmonic sounds to promote relaxation\, deep meditation\, and overall well-being. Practitioner Joi Hunt plays a variety of instruments to create a sonic environment that envelops participants – including crystal singing bowls\, Tibetan singing bowls\, gongs\, chimes\, and other sound-making tools. \nThe vibrations and frequencies produced by the instruments in a sound bath are believed to have a positive effect on the body and mind. For grades K – 3rd \nCarole Pearlman’s lifelong fascination with creativity began as a child\, in a neighborhood art class\, where making art in the backyard was the only agenda for an entire summer. Many art classes later Carole completed a BFA in painting\, a MEd in Educational Therapy\, and an MA in Developmental Psychology. Integrating the disciplines of art\, education\, and psychology Carole developed The Joy of Creativity Art program. Carole works as a facilitator of creativity with students ages 4 to 84! Through her teaching\, research\, and daily practice\, she believes that being creative is an essential part of a balanced life. Carole is a professional artist and certified teacher.

DESCRIPTION:If you would like to experience a peaceful practice and healing escape\, or if you are curious about how to take better care of yourself\, and make self-care a reality in your life\, you will make this class a monthly priority.  The combination of restorative yoga along with a live sound bath requires no experience except tuning into your senses. \nJoin us for an incredible 90-minute restorative yoga practice and healing sound bath to Himalayan crystal and Tibetan bowls\, chimes\, Indian flute\, and more. You will be guided through yogic practices that will nourish your mind\, body and spirit as you move into restorative yoga poses\, and experience various forms of meditation and breathwork\, all while tuning into a sound healing experience. \nThis practice will help reduce stress and allow the nervous system to reset. You will leave feeling rejuvenated and relaxed in addition to learning some practical tools on how to bring deep healing into your daily life. \nWear comfortable clothing. DESCRIPTION:In this class\, enhance your mosaic skills and explore endless creative possibilities. Learn new tips\, techniques\, and methods\, while being introduced to a variety of materials to bring your mosaic vision to life. Get answers to your questions and create a unique art or architectural mosaic piece. All supplies will be included. \n2 Options: 10am – 1pm OR 1:30 – 4:30pm \nAhmed Ibrahim has been creating mosaics since 2000 and is the winner of the 14th International Mosaic Meeting in Chartres\, France. He believes that the key to artistic growth lies in continuously pushing beyond your comfort zone. \nAhmed was part of the Sabry Mansour artist team\, where he contributed to the design and installation of four large mosaic murals at Ahram Canadian University in Cairo\, as well as a project for the Festivals Building at Helwan University. His mosaic work is featured in numerous public spaces throughout the Greater Chicagoland area\, both indoors and outdoors. \nIn addition to completing public art projects\, Ahmed is a Mosaic Teaching Artist at the Hyde Park Art Center. He has previously taught at The Chicago Mosaic School\, The Art Center Highland Park\, and The Stirling Hall Art Center. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. \nAhmed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mural Arts from Helwan University in Cairo\, Egypt.

DESCRIPTION:Using an oak leaf as a template we will paint and collage an autumn-inspired canvas. Participants will use paper and cardboard ephemera to collage inside the leaf shape\, then embellish with acrylic paints. This is a unique seasonal project that can be displayed all month.
