DESCRIPTION:This gentle flow class is warm and light\, ideal for anyone wanting a slower-paced class.  We move to create flexibility and sustain our range of motion through supportive passive openings and longer holds and props.  This class is for any age\, body type\, and level of experience. As you progress\, you will learn how to incorporate breath connection and meditation techniques into your practice.  Please bring a mat and a water bottle. \nTaking a yoga class can offer a variety of physical\, mental\, and emotional benefits including improving cardiovascular health\, reducing stress and tension and leaving you feeling more energized and revitalized. \nAreta has been teaching yoga in Lake Forest and in yoga studios along the North Shore for 10 years and is E-RYT 500 Certified.  Areta’s passion is bringing yoga to Every BODY and has additional certifications in Meditation\, Adaptive Yoga for Disabilities\, Senior Yoga\, Love Your Brain for traumatic brain injury\, Yoga for Eating Disorder Recovery\, Yin Yoga\, and Yoga for 12 Step Recovery.  Areta teaches yoga to inspire and empower physical well-being\, spiritual balance\, and awakening for everyday life.  She is a long-time resident of Lake Forest and a disability advocate and volunteer yoga coach for the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA).

Participants will also bring home a ‘homemade’ deliciously healthy recipe booklet! \n \n\nMonica Joyce\, MS\, RDN\, CDCES is a clinical dietitian and a certified diabetes educator with over thirty years of clinical experience in both an endocrinology practice in Chicago\, Illinois and currently at Northwestern Medicine in Lake Forest\, Illinois. She also has been an adjunct Professor teaching nutrition in a Culinary Institute in Chicago\, IL. \n\n  \n  \n  \n\n \nDisha Narang\, M.D. is a board-certified endocrinologist at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital. She completed her undergraduate and medical education at Vanderbilt University\, prior to completing her internal medicine residency and Endocrinology fellowship at the University of Chicago. Dr. Narang has a specialized interest in the management of diabetes\, obesity\, and culinary medicine\, and strives to emphasize the adage “food is medicine” throughout her medical practice.

Each week a different artist will be featured to inspire students to create their own unique piece of art. This class can get messy\, so please wear old clothing or bring an apron/smock. For grades K – 3rd \nCarole Pearlman’s lifelong fascination with creativity began as a child\, in a neighborhood art class\, where making art in the backyard was the only agenda for an entire summer. Many art classes later Carole completed a BFA in painting\, a MEd in Educational Therapy\, and an MA in Developmental Psychology. Integrating the disciplines of art\, education\, and psychology Carole developed The Joy of Creativity Art program. Carole works as a facilitator of creativity with students ages 4 to 84! Through her teaching\, research\, and daily practice\, she believes that being creative is an essential part of a balanced life. Carole is a professional artist and certified teacher.

DESCRIPTION:In this class Joalida will teach your teen contemporary art-making using pencils\, charcoal and ink. Focusing on black and white helps developing artists to focus on the more technical aspects of drawing: light\, shading and composition.  Charcoal and ink is also a very expressive medium and great for teens to learn how to use expressive mark-making in their art. \nYounger teens with drawing skills may benefit from this art class as it will teach the fundamentals of drawing. \nThe Wednesday class focuses on painting on paper and canvas and drawing skills are assumed and not taught directly.  Ages 12 – 17 \nMaterials list \n\nWillow charcoal sticks\nset of charcoal pencils\nset of drawing pencils (2B\, 4B\, 6B)\nBlack India ink\nSketchbook with textured surface (larger than document size preferred)\n\nWhy take an art class?\n \nTeens can benefit from taking an art class for a variety of reasons. In particular\, it facilitates executive functioning through planning and organising ideas and solving problems as they emerge during the process.  It is a stress-release and can be therapeutic\,providing a unique way for teens to communicate thoughts\, emotions\, and ideas that might be difficult to express through words alone.
