Young artists ages 8–13 will help build a giant recycled canvas collage of the American flag to celebrate 250 years of American Independence. \nIn this hands-on art experience\, children will explore many materials. They will work with recycled fabrics\, paper\, found objects\, and textured pieces. They will discover how everyday items can become meaningful art. Local artist and Gorton Center teacher Vee Gunn will guide them through the process. Students will practice creativity\, teamwork\, and artistic expression. \nAt the end of the workshop\, we will display the finished collage on the walls of The Gorton Center. Each child will see their work become part of a public art installation for the community to enjoy. \nSpace is limited\, so sign up early. Most importantly\, the focus stays on process\, creativity\, and ensemble collaboration rather than polish or perfection. \nThen\, at the end of the week\, the camp wraps up with a short\, informal presentation for family and friends. This low-key showing offers a glimpse into what the students have created together. Rather than a fully staged production\, it celebrates experimentation\, growth\, and shared discovery. \nOverall\, this camp is ideal for students who love creative exploration. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama. She is fluent in Ballet\, Jazz\, Tap\, Hip-Hop\, Modern\, Lyrical\, Contemporary\, Poms\, Pointe\, Musical Theatre\, Stretch/Conditioning and Character. Some of Carla’s credits include: The Chicago Tribune Charities production of “The Nutcracker ” at The Arie Crown Theatre\, Dirty Dancing\, Carnaval at The Victor Hotel\, Dance Chicago\, MTVs Sweet 16\, as well as various music videos and concerts nationwide. With engaging camp sessions available in both the morning and afternoon\, you can mix and match programs to fit your child’s interests and create a dynamic full-day experience. \nTo make things even easier\, Gorton offers a supervised lunchtime option for campers attending both a morning and afternoon session. Our friendly and attentive staff will oversee campers during lunch from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (or until 1:30 PM\, depending on the camp schedule)\, providing a safe and relaxed environment where kids can unwind\, eat\, and socialize with friends between activities. This convenient lunchtime care is available for just $20 per week. \nPlease note that lunch is not provided. Campers must bring their own sack lunch and drink each day.  \nImportant Registration Information:\nYou must pre-register for all camps and lunchtime supervision. Police and fire representatives will be on hand to answer any questions. \nFour-Day Interactive Safety Awareness Program\n\nSafety Town Majors is for 5-7 year-olds only. To register for this camp\, your child must be between the ages of 5 and 7 at the time of camp\, with no exceptions.\nNo repeat campers. Gorton Center will review 2025 graduation list and if your camper has attended Majors camp\, you will be contacted and your child withdrawn. This policy allows more opportunities for new campers in the community.\nHave an 8-10-year-old? Sign up for Safety Town Commanders here!\n\nWhat A Camp Day Looks Like\nEach day\, campers explore essential safety skills through hands-on activities led by certified teachers\, community guest speakers\, and visits from the Lake Forest Police and Fire Departments. With guidance from trained teen volunteers\, kids practice pedestrian safety by riding tricycles through a miniature town complete with streets\, sidewalks\, stop signs\, and a working traffic signal. Campers also build confidence by memorizing an important phone number\, singing fun safety songs\, and learning the Safety Town Pledge. \nSafety Town Majors takes place at Gorton Center Tuesday\, June 9 through Friday\, June 12 from 1–4 pm\, rain or shine. He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n \nAbout Our Artistic Director: Jeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Our friendly and attentive staff will oversee campers during lunch from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (or until 1:30 PM\, depending on the camp schedule)\, providing a safe and relaxed environment where kids can unwind\, eat\, and socialize with friends between activities. This convenient lunchtime care is available for just $20 per week. \nPlease note that lunch is not provided. DESCRIPTION:Camp registration opens on Monday\, February 2 at 10 am\nJoin Lezlie Lenz and Carole Pearlman for a fun\, week-long art camp that sparks creativity and builds confidence. Each afternoon\, students jump into an art-making extravaganza filled with drawing and discovery. \nStudents begin each session with a free-draw project to explore their own ideas. Next\, they study an Artist of the Day and learn new styles and techniques. They finish with a guided draw-along that encourages creativity while building skills. \nThroughout the week\, students experiment with materials\, practice drawing\, and enjoy making art in a supportive environment. By the end of camp\, each artist takes home a personal portfolio of their work. \nAll supplies are included.Open to students entering 1st–6th grade.
