Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama. DESCRIPTION:First-timers and veterans explore their creative sides on stage and in front of the camera. The basics of acting such as hitting a mark\, enunciation and voice projection as well as more advanced acting principles such as developing a character\, developing a relationship and creating real behavior are explored. Bring in material and characters from any play\, TV show\, film\, book – anything that interests you. Performance material will also be provided. Or an actor who portrayed a pirate in our play can play a lost kid. An example of a short film we can develop\, write and shoot is: Tootles leads the lost kids to Mermaid Lagoon to retrieve a shark tooth that one of the mermaids stole from him. \nGuided by experienced instructors\, students master fundamental acting techniques such as hitting marks\, voice projection\, and character development\, while also delving into more nuanced aspects of performance\, like authentic relationships and believable behavior. Veterans and first timers are welcome in this class that provides a supportive space to grow\, learn\, and most importantly\, have fun. DESCRIPTION:In “Peter Pan Now Adventures\,” students pick a character from Gorton Drama Studio’s original play\, “Peter Pan Now” and help develop\, write and shoot original short films. If a student was in the production of “Peter Pan Now\,” she can play her original role or choose a new role. Students do not have to have been in the production of “Peter Pan Now” in order to be in the class and all students will work on multiple films and get the opportunity to portray multiple characters. \nFor example\, an actor who portrayed a lost kid in our play can try portraying Peter Pan. Or an actor who portrayed a pirate in our play can play a lost kid. An example of a short film we can develop\, write and shoot is: Tootles leads the lost kids to Mermaid Lagoon to retrieve a shark tooth that one of the mermaids stole from him. \nGuided by experienced instructors\, students master fundamental acting techniques such as hitting marks\, voice projection\, and character development\, while also delving into more nuanced aspects of performance\, like authentic relationships and believable behavior. Veterans and first timers are welcome in this class that provides a supportive space to grow\, learn\, and most importantly\, have fun. We will explore different mediums\, techniques and genres  in a fun supportive environment\, where your budding artist can develop and grow at their own pace. Ages 12 – 17 \n*Your child may be asked to leave if they do not comply with the rules of the art room. \nWhy take an art class?\n \nTeens can benefit from taking an art class for a variety of reasons. It supports cognitive and emotional development. In particular\, it facilitates executive functioning through planning and organising ideas and solving problems as they emerge during the process.  It is a stress-release and can be therapeutic\,providing a unique way for teens to communicate thoughts\, emotions\, and ideas that might be difficult to express through words alone. For fifteen years\, he has researched the impact of mindfulness and emotion regulation practices on teaching\, learning\, and leadership in schools. Originally from Oklahoma\, “Mr. V.” was general music teacher at Wescott School in Northbrook for 37 years. He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n  \n\nInstructor Madison Kisst: Madison is an actor\, director and theatre teacher. She has taught for professional theater companies across the country and for the undergraduate acting program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Madison has extensive training in physical and classical theatre\, voice and movement\, and devising. She has her BA in Theatre Arts and Masters of Fine Arts in Performance. \n  \n \nAbout Our Artistic Director: Jeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama. DESCRIPTION:Join Joalida Smit in her art studio for a week of drawing and painting an aspirational portrait – an image that reflects both your current inspirations and hopes for your future. We will think about ourselves\, who we are\, what we love and what we hope to change. I will take your budding artist through the process of image-making from ideation to final art work\, focusing on the fundamentals of the art process – drawing faces\, color-mixing for skin tones and composition. This art camp is process orientated\, meaning that I work with your teen’s unique style\, helping them to establish their artistic voice within the safety of a vibrant art studio environment. \nThis camp is ideal for middle schoolers aged 10 – 15 with artistic ability who wants to develop their skills to the next level. \n  \n \nJoalida Smit is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist turned full time artist.
