They also help children connect with others and feel more comfortable in social settings. \nIn this class\, children ages 5 to 8 will learn the basics of everyday manners. The lessons are fun\, hands-on\, and easy to understand. Through gentle practice and simple routines\, kids will build skills they can use at home\, school\, or anywhere they go. \nGood manners start with respect – for yourself and for others. When children practice polite behavior\, they show they care. They learn to be thoughtful guests\, kind friends\, and helpful family members. \nThis class covers key habits that make mealtimes smoother and conversations easier. Step by step\, students will learn how to behave politely in group settings and around the table. \nTopics include:\n\nSetting the table for a two-course meal using real plates\, cutlery\, and glasses\nPracticing how to use silverware correctly\nTaking turns and being patient while others speak\nSitting tall with good posture and keeping elbows off the table\nListening carefully and making eye contact when someone is talking\nStarting and joining polite conversations during meals\n\nEach skill is taught in a way that’s age-appropriate and fun. Students will sing\, act\, dance\, and perform in a holiday-themed musical revue. Along the way\, they will bring classic Christmas stories\, favorite holiday songs\, and memorable characters to life. \nFirst\, students will build acting\, singing\, and performance skills. Then\, they will strengthen stage presence\, develop memorable characters\, and learn to work as a strong ensemble. Throughout the session\, performers will rehearse scenes\, songs\, and choreography while preparing for a polished production. \nStudents may perform selections inspired by Elf the Musical\, The Polar Express\, A Charlie Brown Christmas\, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!\, White Christmas\, and other holiday favorites. \nAs a Level Three class\, students take an active role in the rehearsal process. Over 24 hours of rehearsal across six weeks\, they will tackle more challenging material\, memorize scenes and songs\, and refine their performance skills. At the same time\, they will build confidence\, strengthen teamwork\, and grow as performers. \nEach class includes scene work\, vocal rehearsals\, choreography\, character development\, and ensemble activities. Every rehearsal moves the cast one step closer to opening night. \nPerformance: The session concludes with a fully staged performance for family and friends. Along the way\, they build acting skills\, vocal confidence\, stage presence\, and storytelling techniques in a fun and supportive environment. \nStudents will explore songs and scenes inspired by The Greatest Showman\, High School Musical\, Descendants\, Newsies\, Hairspray\, and more. Then\, through scene work\, song rehearsals\, character activities\, and simple choreography\, they’ll create memorable performances while growing as confident performers. \nThroughout the session\, students will strengthen ensemble skills\, develop believable characters\, and learn how songs and scenes work together to tell a story. DESCRIPTION:Practice the art of gratitude by creating a thoughtful pen and watercolor project.  This project will have you leaving the art room feeling refreshed and thankful for life’s treasures. \nAll supplies provided.  Ages 11+ \n \nThis class is free\, but spaces are limited and participants must pre-register.  \nCelebrating their tenth anniversary\, Art Impact Project is a local 501c(3) with a mission of enhancing emotional wellness through creative expression.  They partner with organizations such as schools\, treatment facilities\, libraries\, and other community spaces throughout Lake County\, to facilitate art programming with a focus on better mental health.  Providing a supportive\, small group setting\, Art Impact Project guides participant step-by-step through the creative process so everyone can experience the benefits of art. \nWant to take this class but can’t make this date? DESCRIPTION:* THIS IS A HYBRID COURSE!  1.5 or 4.5 HOURS ONLINE @ HOME AND 2.5 HOURS IN-PERSON!\nThis blended learning style Basic CPR and AED class with optional First Aid is a must have basic skill everyone should learn. This class will not satisfy a BLS requirement. You will learn how to perform life-saving skills such as rescue breathing\, CPR\, and managing an obstructed airway for all ages. Also\, learn how to use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). \nThis course is designed by the Health Safety Institute\, a worldwide leader in CPR\, AED and First Aid emergency care training programs. Students will receive a certification valid for two years\, upon successful completion of the course. Class materials include a digital reference book and digital certification card issued upon successful completion of the in-person skills class. \nONLINE\nThe on-line prerequisite class is self-paced. It is best to use a PC to complete. We will send you the link for the online portion once we reach our registration minimum. If you have not received your learning link by 1 week prior to class\, please contact instructor (Tanya 847-989-7056). CPR and AED only will take approximately 1.5  hour.  CPR\, AED\, and optional First Aid will take up to 4.5 hours. The instructor will send you an email with the class options. A learning link can not be assigned until you choose your option. \nIN-PERSON (At Gorton Center)  \nIn-Person skills class is the same for both options and will take approximately 2.5 hours. Wear comfortable clothing. Most of the practice will take place on the floor. A kneeling pad is provided but students may also want to bring a yoga mat or towel to lie on floor. When children practice polite behavior\, they show they care. Step by step\, students will learn how to behave politely in group settings and around the table. \nTopics include:\n\nSetting the table for a two-course meal using real plates\, cutlery\, and glasses\nPracticing how to use silverware correctly\nTaking turns and being patient while others speak\nSitting tall with good posture and keeping elbows off the table\nListening carefully and making eye contact when someone is talking\nStarting and joining polite conversations during meals\n\nEach skill is taught in a way that’s age-appropriate and fun. From how to get started and communicate with parents\, to caring for infants and young children\, this class teaches critical skills in a fun and relatable format using a magazine-style student guide and vlogger-inspired videos. \nParticipants will learn important topics including: \n\nStarting and marketing a babysitting business\n\n\nUnderstanding the expectations of parents and caregivers\n\n\nBasic child development and age-appropriate play\n\n\nFeeding\, diapering\, and bedtime routines\n\n\nSafety and emergency preparedness\n\n\nBasic first aid and how to respond to common injuries and emergencies\n\nHands-on training and practice are central to this course. Through realistic scenarios and interactive learning\, students will gain the knowledge and experience needed to handle babysitting situations with calmness and confidence. To successfully complete the class and earn a certificate\, students must demonstrate competency in all required skills without assistance. \nThis class offers an excellent opportunity for participants to strengthen their leadership skills and gain practical experience in babysitting. SUMMARY:CPR\, AED and Optional First Aid Course
DESCRIPTION:* THIS IS A HYBRID COURSE!  1.5 or 4.5 HOURS ONLINE @ HOME AND 2.5 HOURS IN-PERSON!\nThis blended learning style Basic CPR and AED class with optional First Aid is a must have basic skill everyone should learn. This class will not satisfy a BLS requirement. You will learn how to perform life-saving skills such as rescue breathing\, CPR\, and managing an obstructed airway for all ages. Also\, learn how to use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). \nThis course is designed by the Health Safety Institute\, a worldwide leader in CPR\, AED and First Aid emergency care training programs. Students will receive a certification valid for two years\, upon successful completion of the course. Class materials include a digital reference book and digital certification card issued upon successful completion of the in-person skills class. \nONLINE\nThe on-line prerequisite class is self-paced. It is best to use a PC to complete. We will send you the link for the online portion once we reach our registration minimum. If you have not received your learning link by 1 week prior to class\, please contact instructor (Tanya 847-989-7056). CPR and AED only will take approximately 1.5  hour.  CPR\, AED\, and optional First Aid will take up to 4.5 hours. The instructor will send you an email with the class options. A learning link can not be assigned until you choose your option. \nIN-PERSON (At Gorton Center)  \nIn-Person skills class is the same for both options and will take approximately 2.5 hours. Wear comfortable clothing. Most of the practice will take place on the floor. A kneeling pad is provided but students may also want to bring a yoga mat or towel to lie on floor. Please inform instructor prior to class if accommodations are needed to explore options.
