DESCRIPTION:This is the perfect camp to kick off summer break! Your creative sewer will love using the sewing machine everyday to stitch up a variety of projects. \nDuring our Summer Collection camp sewers will make a variety of projects that they can wear throughout summer. We will make a cute tank top\, matching shorts and a reversible bag! \nThis camp will be led by Ciao Bella Sewing. All supplies\, including fabric\, sewing machines\, and sewing notions are provided. \nIt is SEW much fun to sew and create. Students can bring their own sewing machine or use the provided sewing machines. Students should bring a water bottle and healthy snack everyday. New and returning students are welcome! Ages 8 – 15 \nLearning to sew has many benefits: \n\nSewing allows children to explore their creativity and express themselves through fabric\, colors\, and design choices. They can bring their own ideas to life and create unique garments or crafts that reflect their individuality.\nSewing teaches practical skills that they can use throughout life like learning to sew on buttons\, mending garments\, or even creating their own clothing fosters independence and self-sufficiency.\nFollowing patterns\, measuring\, and making precise cuts and stitches develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as well as problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.\nSewing can be a calming and therapeutic activity. The focus and concentration required during sewing can help children relax\, reduce stress\, and improve their overall well-being. It allows them to immerse themselves in a creative process and enjoy a sense of accomplishment when they complete a project.

DESCRIPTION:Join Joalida Smit in her art studio for a week of drawing and painting an aspirational portrait – an image that reflects both your current inspirations and hopes for your future. We will think about ourselves\, who we are\, what we love and what we hope to change. I will take your budding artist through the process of image-making from ideation to final art work\, focusing on the fundamentals of the art process – drawing faces\, color-mixing for skin tones and composition. This art camp is process orientated\, meaning that I work with your teen’s unique style\, helping them to establish their artistic voice within the safety of a vibrant art studio environment. \nThis camp is ideal for middle schoolers aged 10 – 15 with artistic ability who wants to develop their skills to the next level. \n  \n \nJoalida Smit is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist turned full time artist. SUMMARY:Safety Town Commanders Camp 8-10 year olds 2023
DESCRIPTION:Camp will run August 8-10 from 12:30-4:00pm.  This camp is for children between the ages of 8-10 and must be of age at time of camp.  Have a 5-7 year old?  Register for Safety Town Majors here!\n\nOur Safety Town Commanders Camp is modeled after the original Safety Town\, but with a curriculum built for the next level\, ages 8-10.    The focus of this camp will include a review of the original Safety Town (Majors) and will go in-depth with experts in areas ranging from fire safety to internet safety and beyond.  Topics will cover many categories pertinent to this age group including what to do if your alarm goes off\, gun safety\, walking home alone\, falls\, poison/medicine safety\, bullying/cyber bullying and mindfulness which includes yoga.\n\nCamp is dynamic and interactive\, with various what-if scenarios being played out and group discussions moderated by a certified teacher.   Children will learn everything from how to use a fire extinguisher to how to navigate safely in today’s cyber world and more!\n\n\nWe are proud to have the following experts teaching our camp: \n\n\nLake Forest Police Department: \n\nLFPD will teach the kids safety awareness and self defense in a fun/interactive way!  They’ll creatively cover topics such as gun safety\, bike and skateboard safety\, what to do when you are home alone and cyber safety/online stranger danger.\n\nLake Forest Fire Department:  \n\n\n\nLFFD will teach kids about everything from fireworks safety to first aid\, to even demonstrating a sprinkler system with a real-live fire in the safe confines of their smokehouse.  This prompts a discussion about home fire prevention and escape plannning.\n\n\nK9 Reading Buddies of the Northshore:\n\n\n\nK9 Reading Buddies of the Northshore will bring their therapy dogs on site and teach the campers all about pet safety!  Topics covered will include what to do if a scary or unknown dog approaches and the do’s and don’ts around dogs.\n\n\n\n\nStephanie Bersh with Simply Bee Counseling :\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStephanie Bersh is the resident Yoga Teacher at Simply Bee.  She has been practicing yoga for the past 15 years and teaching the past four years and is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. \nStephanie will talk about mindfulness and how to handle bullying or witnessing bullying.  She’ll do a fun yoga session with the kids so they can learn about the mind/body connection and how important it is to our health. \n\n \nLFOLA will teach our kids all about outdoor safety\, tick safety\, poisonous plants that are indigenous to our praries\, and why it is so important to get off our screens and get outdoors! \n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nIF YOU ARE A TEEN ENTERING THE 8TH GRADE IN THE FALL OF 2022 OR OLDER\, AND ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A COUNSELOR\, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS FORM

SUMMARY:Musical Theater Acting Camp "The Wizard of OZ"
DESCRIPTION:Musical Theater Acting Camp for ages 7 to 14 is an immersive three weeks of acting lessons\, singing lessons\, dancing lessons\, audition classes\, film screenings and rehearsals. The camp culminates with a performance of “The Wizard of Oz” in the The John and Nancy Hughes Theater\, our 309-seat state-of-the-art facility. \nThe first week of camp consists of acting\, singing\, dancing\, and audition classes. The basics of acting such as hitting a mark\, enunciation and voice projection as well as more advanced acting principles such as developing a character\, developing a relationship and creating real behavior are explored. Dance and singing classes introduce and progress basic and advanced techniques necessary for musical theater performance such as vocal phonation and total body awareness. Audition classes cover the basics such as where to look during a casting session as well as tips on how to take direction from a casting director or director; every actor will go to his or her first or next audition with confidence. \nAll students will audition for and be cast in “The Wizard of Oz” that will be rehearsed for the remainder of camp and performed twice at the end of camp in The John and Nancy Hughes Theater. After the last performance\, there will be a cast party! \nAll classes and rehearsals are held at Gorton Center in Lake Forest in one of our beautiful spaces such as The John and Nancy Hughes Theater\, our dedicated dance room and our intimate black box theater. \nThis is a fantastic opportunity for seasoned actors to hone their skills and first-timers to get their feet wet in a low-pressure environment\, but still get the experience of a professional production. Our goal is to have fun with old friends\, make new friends\, learn about acting\, learn acting skills that are applicable to life and experience the thrill of performing “The Wizard of Oz” in front of a live audience in The John and Nancy Hughes Theater. \nMadison Kisst will direct the production. Madison recently directed the winter musical at Deerpath Middle School and is thrilled to be working with Gorton Drama Studio this summer. \nGorton Drama Studio creates theater experiences that inspire and entertain. \nJuly 10\, 2023 to July 28\, 2023 \nPerformances on July 28 and 29. \n9am to 3pm daily \nNOTE: Camp ends at 3pm daily\, but we will offer an extended day until 5pm for a minimal fee. Details coming soon! \nAges 7 to 14 \n \nDIRECTOR AND PHYSICAL THEATER INSTRUCTOR: Madison Kisst: Madison is an actor and physical theatre teacher. She is currently directing the winter musical at Deerpath Middle School. She has taught for professional theater companies across the country and for the undergraduate acting program at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Madison has extensive training in physical and classical theatre\, voice and movement\, and devising. She has her BA in Theatre Arts and Masters of Fine Arts in Performance.\n \n \nINSTRUCTOR: Jeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio\, is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017). The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama. She is fluent in Ballet\, Jazz\, Tap\, Hip-Hop\, Modern\, Lyrical\, Contemporary\, Poms\, Pointe\, Musical Theatre\, Stretch/Conditioning and Character. We will make 4th of July themed tote bags\, a cozy blanket for the fireworks\, an outdoor pillow\, a 4th of July banner out of felt and a cute skirt to wear to the fireworks. \nAll supplies\, including fabric\, sewing machines\, and sewing notions are provided. It is SEW much fun to sew and create. \nThis camp runs Monday\, June 26 – Friday\, June 30\, 9:30am – 12:00pm \nAges: 8 – 15 Years Old \n \nAt Ciao Bella Sewing it is our goal to teach budding fashionistas and designers all about the fun & creative world of sewing and fashion design. We love to be creative and share our passion for fashion and sewing with others. All of our sewing instructors have a strong background in sewing\, fashion and pattern design. SUMMARY:"Ferris Bueller" Acting\, Filmmaking & Performance Camp
DESCRIPTION:Acting\, filmmaking and a performance in the Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade.\nTake on the role of Ferris\, Cameron\, Sloan\, Jeanie or Mr. Rooney – or any character of your choice. The basics of acting such as hitting a mark\, enunciation and voice projection as well as more advanced acting principles such as developing a character\, developing a relationship and creating real behavior are explored. You will do acting exercises\, character work\, improvisations and selected scenes from the story. \nClasses are held in our intimate black box theater\, our 309 seat state-of-art theater – The John and Nancy Hughes Theater – and on our new Film and TV Sound Stage. In addition to acting skills\, students will learn how to write\, shoot and edit short films – films inspired by “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Students will also help decorate a Ferris Bueller-themed parade float. A choreographed song and dance number will be rehearsed during camp and performed during the Lake Bluff 4th of July parade. “Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?” \nMonday\, June 26 – Friday\, June 30 from 9 am to 3 pm\nMonday\, July 3 from 9 am to 3 pm\nTuesday\, July 4 – Time TBD\n(7 days total) \nStudents will be outside as much as possible.\nCamp ends at 3pm daily\, but we will offer an extended day\nuntil 5pm for a minimal fee.\n$500\nAges 7 to 14 \nABOUT OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:\n \nJeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio\, is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017). Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama.
