SUMMARY:Periwinkle Studio Art Camp: Artful Items
DESCRIPTION:Camp registration opens on Monday\, February 2 at 10 am\nCreative Arts & Crafts Camp: Art Meets Function!\nWe designed this art camp for young creators who love to make things they can actually use. All week long\, campers dive into hands-on techniques and turn ideas into functional\, one-of-a-kind art. \nFirst\, they explore fiber and design. They weave colorful tapestries and create personalized wall hangings that show off their style. \nThen\, they bring storytelling into the mix. Each camper makes a handmade book filled with drawings\, designs\, and creative surprises. Finally\, they look to nature. Campers create a vase with permanent flowers\, adding lasting color and beauty to their homes. \nAlong the way\, campers learn how to see materials differently. They repurpose everyday objects and turn them into something new. As a result\, they build confidence\, think creatively\, and discover how art can be both beautiful and useful. \nPeriwinkle Art Studio invites kids to join this fun and inspiring camp\, where creativity flows\, skills are learned\, and campers walk away with a set of handmade treasures they can proudly display or use. Whether your child is a seasoned artist or just starting to explore their creative side\, this camp promises to provide a nurturing\, hands-on environment for artistic growth and self-expression. \nAges 7 – 12

SUMMARY:Overture Games: Create Digital Worlds with AI Camp
DESCRIPTION:A Summer Break creative studio for the next generation of digital creators.\nAt Overture Games\, campers step into the role of world-builders\, designers\, and storytellers. Using secure\, age-appropriate AI tools\, they create an original digital universe from the ground up. Unique characters come to life with strengths\, flaws\, and rich backstories. Immersive environments take shape\, from futuristic cities to enchanted forests. Compelling storylines unfold with conflict\, choices\, and surprising twists. Clear “rules” define how each world works and make every creation feel believable. \nEach day blends guided creation time with hands-on exploration. Mentors introduce new tools and creative strategies in simple\, practical steps. Team brainstorming sessions spark bold ideas and fresh perspectives. Interactive build challenges push creativity further and encourage smart problem-solving. \nHigh-energy activities like “Real or AI?” sharpen critical thinking. Campers analyze images\, stories\, and media to decide what humans created and what AI generated. Group discussions explore bias\, accuracy\, and digital responsibility. Real-world examples help kids practice ethical and thoughtful AI use. \nCertified STEM Pro mentors lead every session with enthusiasm and support. Clear instruction helps beginners feel confident from day one. Advanced prompts and optional challenges keep experienced creators fully engaged. A safe\, collaborative environment encourages curiosity and risk-taking. \nBy the end of the week\, each camper completes a fully developed digital world. Finished projects include characters\, environments\, lore\, and governing rules. Stronger creative skills\, sharper critical thinking\, and a polished world to proudly share make this an unforgettable summer experience. \nGrades 1st – 5th \n*Aspen Buckingham and Steven Jiang\, co-founders of Overture Games\, are on a mission to revolutionize music education through video games. Aspen\, a Northwestern University alumnus\, has a background in music composition and computer science. Steven\, also a Northwestern graduate\, holds degrees in economics and music performance. SUMMARY:Comics Lab Camp
DESCRIPTION:Create Your Own Comics Adventure at Comics Lab Camp\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Comics Lab Camp and discover how to turn your ideas into exciting visual stories. Whether you love manga\, superhero comics\, graphic novels\, or funny 4-panel strips\, this camp helps you build the skills to create comics in your own unique style. Along the way\, you develop confidence as both an artist and a storyteller.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFirst\, learn the fundamentals of comics creation through fun and focused lessons. Explore how comics combine words and images to tell stories in ways that books and movies cannot. Then\, practice using panels\, pacing\, dialogue\, and page layouts to guide readers through your story. You also experiment with character design\, expressions\, action scenes\, and visual storytelling techniques. \nEach class begins with a short lesson that introduces a new comics skill or technique. Afterward\, jump into guided workshop time where you apply what you learned right away. Work step-by-step on original comic pages\, complete creative exercises\, or develop a personal project from concept to finished pages. In addition\, receive feedback and encouragement in a supportive studio environment. \nComics Lab Camp welcomes artists of all experience levels. Beginners can learn core storytelling and drawing techniques\, while experienced artists can strengthen their style and explore new ideas. Most importantly\, students gain hands-on experience creating comics from start to finish. \nWe provide basic drawing supplies for every student. However\, you are welcome to bring your own favorite materials\, including sketchbooks\, markers\, tablets\, or digital drawing tools. No matter your medium\, you will have the opportunity to create\, experiment\, and share your work with others who love comics too. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAges 10 – 15 \n \nGraham Henderson is a comics creator and founder of Attune arts\, an adaptive arts and recreation company. He has published comics that have been translated into multiple languages\, exhibited at comic cons across the Midwest\, and found tremendous joy in making drawings come to life.
