Kids explore wellness through movement\, games\, activities\, and play. They discover different facets of well-being and learn strategies to regulate their emotions and understand themselves. \nEach session begins with deep breathing and reflection. We then move into fun exercises and energizing movement. During the first hour\, students focus on one wellness dimension and create hands-on artifacts. In the second hour\, they explore a new dimension and end with a peaceful closing. Day two follows the same rhythm and structure. \nStudents learn about interpersonal\, spiritual\, environmental\, physical\, and nutritional wellness. Some activities take place outdoors\, so please send your child prepared for the weather. \nAges: 3rd & 4th Grades \nJessica Volpe is a national board certified health and wellness coach and has been teaching in the school district for nearly 25 years. She saw a need to help children understand what it means to be well beyond social emotional learning and help children develop the tools to learn about how to care for themselves and the world around them.

Winter Wonderland brings kids together to explore snowy settings\, holiday adventures\, and cozy traditions through musical theater. \nIn acting class\, students will create original scenes inspired by stories like The Grinch\, Frozen\, A Christmas Carol\, Elf\, or their own made-up winter tales. DESCRIPTION:Join the Safety Town Deputies at Gorton Center!\nA Community-Favorite Camp for Ages 2 to 5\nThe Safety Town Deputies summer camp is a fun\, play-based introduction to safety awareness\, designed especially for young children ages 2 to 5. Held at the Children’s Learning Center at Gorton Center\, this beloved program helps kids learn important life skills in a safe\, welcoming\, and engaging environment. \nOver the course of three fun-filled mornings\, your little one will embark on an exciting journey of discovery. Each day focuses on a big idea—like pet safety\, fire safety\, and understanding the helpful role of police officers—in a way that’s engaging\, age-appropriate\, and just plain fun! \nThrough hands-on activities\, interactive games\, lively songs\, colorful crafts\, and immersive storytelling\, children will learn how to stay safe\, help others\, and build confidence in everyday situations. Whether they’re learning how to approach a friendly dog\, practicing a fire drill with pretend play\, or hearing stories about community heroes\, kids will be having so much fun they won’t even realize how much they’re learning. \nSafety Town Deputies will be held at Gorton Center from Monday\, August 18 through Wednesday\, August 20 from 9 am to 11:30 am\, rain or shine. We are going to make a pair of cozy PJ Pants\, a pencil case with velcro and a fleece sweater that your sewer will love wearing during the colder months. \nThis camp will be led by Ciao Bella Sewing. DESCRIPTION:Jewelry Design Camp: Create\, Shine & Showcase!\nGet ready to sparkle! In this exciting\, hands-on jewelry design camp\, young creators will have the opportunity to design and craft their very own unique jewelry pieces from start to finish. \nThroughout the week\, campers will learn from experienced young fashion designers who will guide them through the art of working with polymer clay to create beautiful handmade necklaces\, bracelets\, earrings\, and more. From color mixing and shaping to adding personal touches\, students will explore their creativity while developing real design skills. \nAt the end\, campers will show off their creations in a fun end-of-week fashion show\, where family and friends are invited to celebrate their hard work and creativity on display! \nEach camper will complete at least five original pieces to take home\, and all materials and supplies are included in the camp price. Whether your child is a budding designer or just loves to make things with their hands\, this camp is a perfect blend of fun\, fashion\, and artistic expression. \nNo prior experience is necessary\, just bring your imagination and enthusiasm! \nFor those students who are looking to attend more than one week of camp\, please note that each week will feature a different series of projects as well as new clay colors and designs to choose from. Ages 6 – 13 \n \nElena Victoria is a local fashion designer who has gone on to find her true passion in teaching youth how to design and sew their own clothing and jewelry through her program\, EV Fine Arts. Jeremy is a professional actor\, published playwright\, award-winning screenwriter\, and award-winning filmmaker. Some of the classes he taught at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York include Method Acting\, Comedic Improvisation\, Sketch Comedy Writing\, and Acting for Film and TV. He graduated from The Strasberg Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he majored in drama. Chicago Summer Stories is a unique media camp designed for middle school students. They’ll explore the exciting world of video production using a tool they already have—their iPhones. \nThis hands-on\, immersive camp walks students through every stage of video storytelling. From brainstorming ideas and writing scripts to filming and editing\, campers dive into the creative process from day one. They’ll work in small teams\, experiment with camera techniques\, and learn to tell powerful stories using their own voice and vision. \nWhat sets this camp apart is its focus on mentorship and collaboration. High school students from the LFHS New Media program and middle school media teachers help lead the way.
