DESCRIPTION:Calling all future fashion designers! The EV Junior Fashion Workshop is perfect for young fashionistas ready to explore their passion for sewing and fashion design. Students will design small-scale outfits on their very own mini mannequins\, create custom jewelry\, participate in fun fashion games\, design paper doll outfits & more. With guidance from our EV Fine Arts instructor\, students will sew a custom outfit to wear using a sewing machine! \nThe class series concludes with our “EV Fashion Show\,” where students proudly showcase their handmade creations. Please note\, there is a snack break included in each session\, so don’t forget to pack a snack! No experience needed\, open to youth ages 4-6.

It can produce stunning detail\, rich color\, and expressive depth. \nIn this class\, you will first learn the foundational skills needed to begin your journey with colored pencils. Next\, we will cover essential topics such as the different types of pencils and paper available. From there\, you will discover how to apply color effectively and then practice techniques such as layering and blending in order to create depth and vibrancy in your drawings. \nEach session will not only introduce new techniques but also provide hands-on projects. As a result\, your confidence and skill will steadily grow. By the end of the course\, you will have completed 2–3 finished renderings\, each one designed to help you apply what you’ve learned in a creative and supportive environment. \nExperienced Artists Welcome\nIf you already have experience working with colored pencils\, you are welcome to join as well. Instead of following the beginner projects\, you may choose to focus on your own rendering. This class is all about exploring\, experimenting\, and finding your own artistic voice. From the start\, the studio feels welcoming\, inspiring\, and full of possibility. \nFirst\, students ages 11 to 17 get to try out a wide mix of materials. They might begin with drawing or painting\, and then move on to mixed media. As they experiment\, they gain confidence. Little by little\, they start developing a style that feels uniquely their own. \nOn top of that\, Joalida’s teaching style makes this class stand out. Instead of rigid\, step-by-step lessons\, her approach is flexible and student-focused. She meets each young artist right where they are. Maybe your teen sketches all the time. Maybe they’ve never touched a paintbrush before. Either way\, Joalida gives encouragement and guidance to help them grow. \nHands-On Experience\nNext\, comes hands-on practice. Students work with graphite\, charcoal\, acrylics\, watercolor\, ink – you name it. They mix materials\, test new techniques\, and see what happens. Teens who cannot adhere to the expectations of the class may be asked to leave. \nJoalida Smit is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist who lived and worked in London (UK) and Cape Town (SA) for the past 20 years. She pivoted to full time artist during COVID and now runs an art studio at The Gorton Center working on large scale canvases. Currently she is exploring innovative ways to incorporate art in the psychology work of personal transformation.

DESCRIPTION:Each week\, children discover a world of mixed-media materials. They’ll work with upcycled clothing and fabrics\, pre-loved crockery\, beads\, buttons\, ribbons\, and more. Then\, they’ll transform these unexpected materials into artworks and keepsakes they’re proud of. \nTo begin\, every session includes a friendly\, guided lesson. That way\, no one ever feels stuck. After that\, there’s plenty of room to experiment\, make choices\, and follow their imagination. There’s no single “right” way to create – and that’s the whole point. \nMost importantly\, our club is relaxed and encouraging. Mess is welcome\, and every idea is worth exploring. Along the way\, children build real confidence. They learn not only how to make things\, but also how to trust their own creativity. \nAs a result\, they begin to see the world a little differently. Suddenly\, an everyday object can be full of possibility. Something old or forgotten can become something beautiful and new. \nIt’s creative\, hands-on\, and a little bit magical. Then\, experiment with different combinations and see where your creativity takes you. \nAlong the way\, learn simple bookmaking techniques that make it easy to turn individual pages into a finished work of art. Play with layout\, texture\, color\, and composition. Try new ideas without worrying about making everything perfect. Each book will reflect your individual style and creative point of view. \nMost importantly\, this class focuses on exploration and self-expression. There is no single way to create an artist book. You can make your project thoughtful\, playful\, colorful\, abstract\, or personal. Let each monthly theme inspire you while still making the project your own. \nNo writing\, art\, or bookmaking experience is required. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. Come ready to cut\, paint\, draw\, layer\, assemble\, and create a one-of-a-kind book that tells your story. \nJoalida Smit is a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist who lived and worked in London (UK) and Cape Town (SA) for the past 20 years. She pivoted to full time artist during COVID and now runs an art studio at The Gorton Center working on large scale canvases. Currently she is exploring innovative ways to incorporate art in the psychology work of personal transformation.

DESCRIPTION:After School Art Club with Carole\nCalling all young artists! After-school art is the perfect place for students to explore their creativity\, try new techniques\, and have fun making something all their own. \nIn this hands-on class\, students will discover the exciting world of art. Each week\, we will feature a different artist. Students will learn about that artist’s unique style\, ideas\, and techniques. Then\, they will use that inspiration to create an original piece of art. \nStudents will experiment with a variety of materials and creative processes. They may paint\, draw\, cut\, glue\, sculpt\, or build. Every project gives students a new way to express themselves. There is no need to make every piece look the same. We encourage students to make their own creative choices and let their personalities shine. \nAfter-school art offers more than a creative outlet. Art activities can help children strengthen fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Students will also practice visual-spatial thinking as they work with shapes\, colors\, patterns\, and space. Each project encourages problem-solving\, too. Students will make decisions\, test ideas\, and discover new ways to bring their artistic visions to life. \nMost importantly\, this class gives young artists a welcoming place to create. Students can build confidence as they experiment with new ideas and see what they can accomplish. They will have opportunities to share their work and celebrate the creativity of their classmates. \nArt can get messy\, and that is part of the fun! Please have your child wear old clothing or bring an apron or smock to class. \nCome create\, explore\, and get inspired with After-school art! \nFor grades K–3rd. \nAbout the Instructor\nCarole Pearlman’s lifelong fascination with creativity began as a child\, in a neighborhood art class\, where making art in the backyard was the only agenda for an entire summer. Many art classes later Carole completed a BFA in painting\, a MEd in Educational Therapy\, and an MA in Developmental Psychology. Integrating the disciplines of art\, education\, and psychology Carole developed The Joy of Creativity Art program. Carole works as a facilitator of creativity with students ages 4 to 84! Through her teaching\, research\, and daily practice\, she believes that being creative is an essential part of a balanced life. Carole is a professional artist and certified teacher.
