A past board member of Chicago Cabaret Professionals\, Cathy has been creating and performing solo cabaret shows since 2013\, including Life of the Party\, Interrupted\, It’s So Easy to Fall in Love with Linda Ronstadt\, 1978: The Year That Changed My World\, and the rave-reviewed It’s a Man’s World. She has appeared at Davenport’s\, Skokie Theatre\, Park West\, Victory Gardens\, Montparnasse in Mykonos\, and Don’t Tell Mama’s in New York City. On Nov 15\, Cathy\, along with Beckie Menzie and percussionist Irwin Berkowitz will perform her latest cabaret collaboration titled Desperado: Linda Ronstadt  and The Eagles at Piano Forte. When she’s not performing\, Cathy has spent nearly three decades sharing her love of music with thousands of children and their families through Kindermusik North Shore.Cathy is delighted to be collaborating today with Andrew Blenderman doing what she loves the most. Connecting people and music!  \nANDREW BLENDERMANN (www.blenderful.com) studied classical piano at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory\, but now mostly hangs out in piano bars\, where his repertoire spans over 2500 songs.  He has entertained regularly at Big Shot in Arlington Heights\, IL\, Mastro’s in Chicago\, and The Signature Room at the 95th.  He spent a decade banging on grand pianos at Howl At The Moon in Chicago\, Milwaukee\, and Cleveland.  He has played dates at Queenie’s\, Shirley’s Piano Bar\, Davenport’s Cabaret\, the Drake Hotel\, and the Redhead Piano Bar.  Andrew plays performances of Teatro Zinzanni and The Blendernitz Experience with Daryl Nitz.  He also accompanies major theater auditions at Actor’s Equity\, and serves as the staff accompanist at Wheeling and John Hersey high schools. \nSing at Gorton is a welcoming community sing series designed to bring people together in a fun\, informal way. Each event is themed around a different style of music\, led by local hosts and open to everyone — no experience or vocal knowledge necessary. These one-off gatherings last about 45–60 minutes and end with refreshments\, making it easy to join in\, connect and sing.

DESCRIPTION:Commanders Camp Registration is Now Closed\nThree-Day Interactive Safety Awareness Program\n\nSafety Town Commanders runs Tuesday August 11  through Thursday August 13 \nThis camp is for 8-10 year-olds only. In order to register for this camp\, your child must be between the ages of 8-10 at the time of camp\, with no exceptions.\n Have a 5-7 year old? Register for Safety Town Majors Camp\n\nWhat A Camp Day Looks Like\nOur Safety Town Commanders Camp is modeled after the original Safety Town\, but with a curriculum built for the next level\, ages 8-10. The focus of this camp will include a review of the original Safety Town. We will also go in-depth with experts in areas like fire safety\, internet safety\, self-defense and beyond. Topics will cover many categories pertinent to this age group\, including what to do if your alarm goes off\, gun safety\, walking home alone\, falls\, poison/medicine safety\, bullying/cyberbullying and mindfulness – including yoga. \n\nCamp is dynamic and interactive\, with various what-if scenarios being played out and group discussions moderated by a certified teacher. We guide campers through the full cookie-making process from start to finish. They mix\, bake\, decorate and create with confidence. As a result\, they leave with new skills and a bakery-style cookie set they’re proud to share. \nFirst\, we start in the kitchen. Campers learn how to roll dough\, cut shapes and bake sugar cookies to perfection. Then\, we move on to royal icing. We show them how to mix\, color and adjust consistency for different decorating techniques. Step by step\, they build skills that bakers use every day. \nNext\, we bring the cookies to life. Campers practice piping\, flooding and adding detailed designs. Along the way\, we encourage creativity and experimentation. They try new techniques\, solve problems and develop their own decorating style. Most importantly\, they gain confidence with each cookie they complete. \nBy the end of the week\, each camper creates a full set of decorated cookies from scratch. DESCRIPTION:Join Gorton Center’s Lunch Bunch!\nLooking to give your child a full day of summer fun\, learning\, and creativity? Gorton Center’s customizable camps offer the perfect solution for busy families and curious kids! With engaging camp sessions available in both the morning and afternoon\, you can mix and match programs to fit your child’s interests and create a dynamic full-day experience. \nTo make things even easier\, Gorton offers a supervised lunchtime option for campers attending both a morning and afternoon session. Our friendly and attentive staff will oversee campers during lunch from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (or until 1:30 PM\, depending on the camp schedule)\, providing a safe and relaxed environment where kids can unwind\, eat\, and socialize with friends between activities. This convenient lunchtime care is available for just $20 per week. \nPlease note that lunch is not provided. Campers must bring their own sack lunch and drink each day.  \nImportant Registration Information:\nYou must pre-register for all camps and lunchtime supervision. Registration closes the Friday before the camp week begins (each Monday)\, so don’t wait to reserve your child’s spot! Whether you love manga\, superhero comics\, graphic novels\, or funny 4-panel strips\, this camp helps you build the skills to create comics in your own unique style. Along the way\, you develop confidence as both an artist and a storyteller.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFirst\, learn the fundamentals of comics creation through fun and focused lessons. Explore how comics combine words and images to tell stories in ways that books and movies cannot. Then\, practice using panels\, pacing\, dialogue\, and page layouts to guide readers through your story. You also experiment with character design\, expressions\, action scenes\, and visual storytelling techniques. \nEach class begins with a short lesson that introduces a new comics skill or technique. Afterward\, jump into guided workshop time where you apply what you learned right away. Work step-by-step on original comic pages\, complete creative exercises\, or develop a personal project from concept to finished pages. In addition\, receive feedback and encouragement in a supportive studio environment. \nComics Lab Camp welcomes artists of all experience levels. Beginners can learn core storytelling and drawing techniques\, while experienced artists can strengthen their style and explore new ideas. Most importantly\, students gain hands-on experience creating comics from start to finish. \nWe provide basic drawing supplies for every student. DESCRIPTION:Camp registration opens on Monday\, February 2 at 10 am\nGet Back to School Ready!\nSewing Camp: Back to School helps creative kids get ready for the school year while learning practical sewing skills. This hands-on sewing camp focuses on projects campers can use every day. As a result\, kids leave with both confidence and creativity stitched in. \nThroughout the week\, campers learn essential sewing techniques step by step. First\, they practice basic skills and safe tool use. Then\, they apply what they’ve learned to fun\, functional projects. Campers make cozy PJ pants\, a Velcro pencil case\, a reversible bag for school activities\, and a playful technology pillow. \nAlong the way\, campers follow patterns\, solve problems\, and bring their ideas to life. Each project builds independence while encouraging self-expression. Plus\, the supportive environment makes it easy for beginners and returning sewists to feel successful. \nBy the end of the week\, campers head back to school with new skills\, handmade projects\, and pride in what they’ve created. Most importantly\, they leave inspired and ready to keep sewing long after camp ends. \nThis camp will be led by Ciao Bella Sewing. All supplies\, including fabric\, sewing machines\, and sewing notions are provided. It is SEW much fun to sew and create. From how to get started and communicate with parents\, to caring for infants and young children\, this class teaches critical skills in a fun and relatable format using a magazine-style student guide and vlogger-inspired videos. \nParticipants will learn important topics including: \n\nStarting and marketing a babysitting business\n\n\nUnderstanding the expectations of parents and caregivers\n\n\nBasic child development and age-appropriate play\n\n\nFeeding\, diapering\, and bedtime routines\n\n\nSafety and emergency preparedness\n\n\nBasic first aid and how to respond to common injuries and emergencies\n\nHands-on training and practice are central to this course. Gorton Center’s customizable camps offer the perfect solution for busy families and curious kids! With engaging camp sessions available in both the morning and afternoon\, you can mix and match programs to fit your child’s interests and create a dynamic full-day experience. \nTo make things even easier\, Gorton offers a supervised lunchtime option for campers attending both a morning and afternoon session. Our friendly and attentive staff will oversee campers during lunch from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (or until 1:30 PM\, depending on the camp schedule)\, providing a safe and relaxed environment where kids can unwind\, eat\, and socialize with friends between activities. This convenient lunchtime care is available for just $20 per week. \nPlease note that lunch is not provided. Campers must bring their own sack lunch and drink each day.  \nImportant Registration Information:\nYou must pre-register for all camps and lunchtime supervision. Or sexual or mental health. And other issues relating to her body. After all\, many of our parents found it hard\, too. Some of us never learned how to discuss – without secrecy\, embarrassment\, or worse\, shame – what it means to turn into a teen. \nWe can fix that. Turning Teen has the support and guidance you need. Interactive classes and workshops\, offered in person or online\, provide age-appropriate\, medically accurate information in an engaging and fun setting. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn about female anatomy\, puberty\, body changes\, body safety\, and more! Turning Teen offers interactive pediatrician-developed educational workshops that are fun\, modern\, and medically accurate! \nFor girls 8+ (who haven’t started puberty yet or are in the early stages) and their parent/trusted adult. \nTurning Teen\, founded by Dr. Lisa Klein and Dr. Carrie Leff\, helps families talk openly about puberty\, bodies\, and sex. DESCRIPTION:Calling all future fashion designers! This exciting camp invites young fashionistas to explore their love of sewing and style in a fun\, supportive space. If your child loves colors\, fabrics\, and creativity\, then this is the perfect place to start. \nThroughout the week\, students jump right into designing. First\, they create small-scale outfits on their very own mini mannequins. Then\, they design custom jewelry to match their looks. In addition\, they enjoy fun fashion-themed games that spark imagination and teamwork. They also design stylish paper doll outfits and experiment with different patterns and textures. \nWith step-by-step guidance from our EV Fine Arts instructor\, students build confidence as they learn real sewing skills. They practice using a sewing machine and\, most importantly\, they sew a custom outfit they can proudly wear home at the end of the week. Every project encourages creativity\, independence\, and self-expression. \nAt the end of the week\, excitement fills the room during our “Fashion Show Friday.” Students walk the runway and proudly showcase their handmade creations for family and friends. It’s a joyful celebration of everything they designed and created! \nPlease note that students enjoy two snack breaks during each 3-hour session\, so be sure to pack a snack. No experience is needed. In this hands-on jewelry design camp\, young creators design and make their own unique pieces from start to finish. \nThroughout the week\, campers learn from experienced young fashion designers. Instructors guide them as they work with polymer clay to create necklaces\, bracelets\, earrings\, and more. Campers mix colors\, shape designs\, and add personal details. Along the way\, they build real design skills and express their creativity. \nAt the end of the week\, campers show off their work in a fun fashion show. Family and friends are invited to celebrate their creativity and hard work. \nEach camper completes at least five original pieces to take home. The camp fee includes all materials and supplies. This camp is perfect for budding designers and hands-on makers alike. It blends fun\, fashion\, and artistic expression. \nNo prior experience is required. Just bring your imagination and enthusiasm! \nFor those students who are looking to attend more than one week of camp\, please note that each week will feature a different series of projects as well as new clay colors and designs to choose from.  \nAges 6 – 13 \n \nElena Victoria is a local fashion designer who has gone on to find her true passion in teaching youth how to design and sew their own clothing and jewelry through her program\, EV Fine Arts.
