From how to get started and communicate with parents\, to caring for infants and young children\, this class teaches critical skills in a fun and relatable format using a magazine-style student guide and vlogger-inspired videos. \nParticipants will learn important topics including: \n\nStarting and marketing a babysitting business\n\n\nUnderstanding the expectations of parents and caregivers\n\n\nBasic child development and age-appropriate play\n\n\nFeeding\, diapering\, and bedtime routines\n\n\nSafety and emergency preparedness\n\n\nBasic first aid and how to respond to common injuries and emergencies\n\nHands-on training and practice are central to this course. DESCRIPTION:Camp registration opens on Monday\, February 2 at 10 am\nGet Back to School Ready!\nSewing Camp: Back to School helps creative kids get ready for the school year while learning practical sewing skills. This hands-on sewing camp focuses on projects campers can use every day. As a result\, kids leave with both confidence and creativity stitched in. \nThroughout the week\, campers learn essential sewing techniques step by step. First\, they practice basic skills and safe tool use. Then\, they apply what they’ve learned to fun\, functional projects. Campers make cozy PJ pants\, a Velcro pencil case\, a reversible bag for school activities\, and a playful technology pillow. \nAlong the way\, campers follow patterns\, solve problems\, and bring their ideas to life. Each project builds independence while encouraging self-expression. Plus\, the supportive environment makes it easy for beginners and returning sewists to feel successful. \nBy the end of the week\, campers head back to school with new skills\, handmade projects\, and pride in what they’ve created. Most importantly\, they leave inspired and ready to keep sewing long after camp ends. \nThis camp will be led by Ciao Bella Sewing. All supplies\, including fabric\, sewing machines\, and sewing notions are provided. It is SEW much fun to sew and create. Students can bring their own sewing machine or use the provided sewing machines. \nStudents should bring a water bottle and healthy snack everyday. *New and returning students are welcome! \nAges 7 – 13 YO

Whether you love manga\, superhero comics\, graphic novels\, or funny 4-panel strips\, this camp helps you build the skills to create comics in your own unique style. Along the way\, you develop confidence as both an artist and a storyteller.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFirst\, learn the fundamentals of comics creation through fun and focused lessons. Explore how comics combine words and images to tell stories in ways that books and movies cannot. Then\, practice using panels\, pacing\, dialogue\, and page layouts to guide readers through your story. You also experiment with character design\, expressions\, action scenes\, and visual storytelling techniques. \nEach class begins with a short lesson that introduces a new comics skill or technique. Afterward\, jump into guided workshop time where you apply what you learned right away. Work step-by-step on original comic pages\, complete creative exercises\, or develop a personal project from concept to finished pages. In addition\, receive feedback and encouragement in a supportive studio environment. \nComics Lab Camp welcomes artists of all experience levels. Beginners can learn core storytelling and drawing techniques\, while experienced artists can strengthen their style and explore new ideas. Most importantly\, students gain hands-on experience creating comics from start to finish. \nWe provide basic drawing supplies for every student. However\, you are welcome to bring your own favorite materials\, including sketchbooks\, markers\, tablets\, or digital drawing tools. Gorton Center’s customizable camps offer the perfect solution for busy families and curious kids! With engaging camp sessions available in both the morning and afternoon\, you can mix and match programs to fit your child’s interests and create a dynamic full-day experience. \nTo make things even easier\, Gorton offers a supervised lunchtime option for campers attending both a morning and afternoon session. Our friendly and attentive staff will oversee campers during lunch from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (or until 1:30 PM\, depending on the camp schedule)\, providing a safe and relaxed environment where kids can unwind\, eat\, and socialize with friends between activities. This convenient lunchtime care is available for just $20 per week. \nPlease note that lunch is not provided. Campers must bring their own sack lunch and drink each day.  \nImportant Registration Information:\nYou must pre-register for all camps and lunchtime supervision. Registration closes the Friday before the camp week begins (each Monday)\, so don’t wait to reserve your child’s spot! DESCRIPTION:Commanders Camp Registration is Now Closed\nThree-Day Interactive Safety Awareness Program\n\nSafety Town Commanders runs Tuesday August 11  through Thursday August 13 \nThis camp is for 8-10 year-olds only. In order to register for this camp\, your child must be between the ages of 8-10 at the time of camp\, with no exceptions.\n Have a 5-7 year old? Register for Safety Town Majors Camp\n\nWhat A Camp Day Looks Like\nOur Safety Town Commanders Camp is modeled after the original Safety Town\, but with a curriculum built for the next level\, ages 8-10. The focus of this camp will include a review of the original Safety Town. We will also go in-depth with experts in areas like fire safety\, internet safety\, self-defense and beyond. Topics will cover many categories pertinent to this age group\, including what to do if your alarm goes off\, gun safety\, walking home alone\, falls\, poison/medicine safety\, bullying/cyberbullying and mindfulness – including yoga. \n\nCamp is dynamic and interactive\, with various what-if scenarios being played out and group discussions moderated by a certified teacher. Children will learn everything from how to use a fire extinguisher to how to navigate safely in today’s cyber world and more! \nWant to be a Safety Town sponsor? Contact Ann Wildman for more information. \nCounselor positions are now full.  \n\nWe are proud to have the following experts teaching our camp:\n\n\n\nLake Forest Police Department: LFPD will teach the kids safety awareness and self-defense in a fun/interactive way! They’ll creatively cover topics such as gun safety\, bike and skateboard safety\, what to do when you are home alone and cyber safety/online stranger danger.\n\n\n\n\n\nLake Forest Fire Department:  LFFD will teach kids about everything from fireworks safety to first aid. They will be demonstrating a sprinkler system with a real-live fire in the safe confines of their smokehouse to prompt a discussion about home fire prevention and escape planning. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOperation Lifesaver: Operation Lifesaver is a non-profit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions\, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks. Operation Lifesaver will be providing our kids with rail safety education!\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nLFOLA will teach our kids all about outdoor safety\, tick safety\, poisonous plants that are indigenous to our prairies\, and why it is so important to get off our screens and get outdoors! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

She has appeared at Davenport’s\, Skokie Theatre\, Park West\, Victory Gardens\, Montparnasse in Mykonos\, and Don’t Tell Mama’s in New York City. On Nov 15\, Cathy\, along with Beckie Menzie and percussionist Irwin Berkowitz will perform her latest cabaret collaboration titled Desperado: Linda Ronstadt  and The Eagles at Piano Forte. When she’s not performing\, Cathy has spent nearly three decades sharing her love of music with thousands of children and their families through Kindermusik North Shore.Cathy is delighted to be collaborating today with Andrew Blenderman doing what she loves the most. Connecting people and music!  \nANDREW BLENDERMANN (www.blenderful.com) studied classical piano at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory\, but now mostly hangs out in piano bars\, where his repertoire spans over 2500 songs.  He has entertained regularly at Big Shot in Arlington Heights\, IL\, Mastro’s in Chicago\, and The Signature Room at the 95th.  He spent a decade banging on grand pianos at Howl At The Moon in Chicago\, Milwaukee\, and Cleveland.  He has played dates at Queenie’s\, Shirley’s Piano Bar\, Davenport’s Cabaret\, the Drake Hotel\, and the Redhead Piano Bar.  Andrew plays performances of Teatro Zinzanni and The Blendernitz Experience with Daryl Nitz.  He also accompanies major theater auditions at Actor’s Equity\, and serves as the staff accompanist at Wheeling and John Hersey high schools. \nSing at Gorton is a welcoming community sing series designed to bring people together in a fun\, informal way. Each event is themed around a different style of music\, led by local hosts and open to everyone — no experience or vocal knowledge necessary.
