DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED.\nIn this class Joalida will teach your teen contemporary art-making using pencils\, charcoal and ink. Focusing on black and white helps developing artists to focus on the more technical aspects of drawing: light\, shading and composition.  Charcoal and ink is also a very expressive medium and great for teens to learn how to use expressive mark-making in their art. \nYounger teens with drawing skills may benefit from this art class as it will teach the fundamentals of drawing. \nThe Wednesday class focuses on painting on paper and canvas and drawing skills are assumed and not taught directly.  Ages 12 – 17 \nMaterials list \n\nWillow charcoal sticks\nset of charcoal pencils\nset of drawing pencils (2B\, 4B\, 6B)\nBlack India ink\nSketchbook with textured surface (larger than document size preferred)\n\nWhy take an art class?\n \nTeens can benefit from taking an art class for a variety of reasons. It supports cognitive and emotional development. DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning childrens’ music educator and composer Bill Vaananen for music classes that delight the ear and stimulate the senses.  Through his original songs\, vibrant slide shows\, and energetic movement\, “Mr. V” leads his young audiences through topics of nature\, history\, culture\, and geography – all rolled into a funtastic\, one-of-a-kind musical experience for kids!  The classes will culminate with a “Spring Sing” Family Concert held on April 21st celebrating Gorton’s 50th Anniversary.   Ages\, K – 2nd Grades. \n \nBill Vaananen is an award-winning music educator and composer who has taught and directed elementary-aged students for over 45 years.  Originally from Oklahoma\, “Mr. V.” was general music teacher at Wescott School in Northbrook for 37 years.  He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs.  Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, NEA-IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n
