In the a.m.\, step into the ballot box with  Mr. V.\, as we celebrate Election Day in the John and Nancy Hughes Theater!  We will honor America in song and story\, celebrating her history\, diversity\, and her natural wonders.  In the afternoon\, we turn our gaze thousands of miles away learning songs from Mr. V.’s original musical “The Race\,” honoring the incredible round-the-world solo-sailing race\, The Vendée Globe\, that begins on Nov. 10th. Originally from Oklahoma\, “Mr. V.” was general music teacher at Wescott School in Northbrook for 37 years. He has written hundreds of songs and dozens of original theater works that have been performed across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Recipient of the Golden Apple Award\, IEA Human Rights Award\, National-Louis Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Justice\, and Star of Teaching Award for the State of Illinois\, Vaananen continues to perform classes and presentations for children\, weaving his original music into inspiring lessons on Nature\, history\, culture\, and adventure. \n \nAbout Our Artistic Director: Jeremy Kruse\, Artistic Director of Gorton Drama Studio is the author of “The Young Actor’s Handbook” (Applause Acting Series\, 2017).The book was published in Korean and Chinese in 2022. DESCRIPTION:First-timers and veterans explore their creative sides on stage and in front of the camera. The basics of acting such as hitting a mark\, enunciation and voice projection as well as more advanced acting principles such as developing a character\, developing a relationship and creating real behavior are explored. Classes consist of acting exercises\, character work\, improvising in character and doing scene work. Bring in material and characters from any play\, TV show\, film\, book – anything that interests you. Performance material will also be provided. Strengthen your technique and be ready for your next audition and performance. The focus of the class is on learning about acting\, learning life skills and having fun! SUMMARY:Autumn Leaf Canvas for Kids
DESCRIPTION:Using an oak leaf as a template we will paint and collage an autumn-inspired canvas. Participants will use paper and cardboard ephemera to collage inside the leaf shape\, then embellish with acrylic paints. This is a unique seasonal project that can be displayed all month. All materials provided. Ages 7 – 14 \nEnrolling your child in an art class is an incredible way to support their growth and creativity! For kids ages 7 to 14\, art is more than just fun – it’s a tool for self-expression and developing important skills. Through painting\, drawing\, and hands-on projects\, children enhance their fine motor skills\, boost their problem-solving abilities\, and build confidence. Art also helps kids learn patience and focus\, all while fostering imagination and individual thought. In a supportive\, collaborative environment\, they’ll explore different art forms and discover new ways to see the world\, creating something uniquely their own.
