Ken’s Tai Chi class is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners. \nTai Chi is an inclusive form of exercise that anyone can do\, whether you are in peak shape\, or have limited mobility. Dress comfortably and be prepared to have fun in Ken’s Tai Chi class. \nHealth Benefits of Tai Chi \nTai Chi has numerous health benefits. It is good for balance\, flexibility\, and stress – regular Tai Chi practice can improve overall physical health and well-being. In fact\, Harvard Health suggests Tai Chi might be “…the perfect activity for the rest of your life.” \nAs a form of exercise\, researchers in Toronto found Tai Chi is equivalent to brisk walking. So\, instead of worrying about your steps (how boring)\, join Ken’s Tai Chi class and have some more fun while you exercise. \nUnlike other forms of exercise\, Tai Chi movements are performed with relaxed muscles and a focus on deep breathing. Slow and gentle\, Tai Chi can improve blood flow\, balance\, and relaxation. Each Tai Chi pose flows into the next with circular\, continuous movements. This helps improve your balance and flexibility without putting strain on muscles and joints. \nTai Chi is also a very social activity\, commonly practiced in groups that rhythmically synchronize slow movements with deep breathing. Like meditation\, Tai Chi creates a calm and focused mind and can create a state of mindfulness. \nTai Chi also benefits emotional well-being and mental health. Regular Tai Chi practice can improve concentration\, physical self-awareness\, and create a sense of inner peace. Tai chi is a great exercise for relieving stress and has been shown to benefit hypertension and high blood pressure. \nWhat is Tai Chi? \nTai Chi is a Chinese traditional exercise that blends martial arts’ movement with meditation. Dating back a thousand years\, Tai Chi remains a popular activity in China and around the world. \nTai Chi is a series of slow\, choreographed martial arts movements and poses. Tai Chi poses are circular and continuous\, with an emphasis on smooth transitions and maintaining a centered and grounded posture. Tai Chi poses mimic the movements of animals or nature\, such as flowing water or a bird in flight.  \nKen has been practicing martial arts for 27 years\, and started Tai Chi training in 1996 with Sifu Dale Washington\, Sifu Ban Toy in 2000 and Grand Master Yang Jun in 2006. He has been practicing Tai Chi for 21 years and teaching Tai Chi for 12 years. In 2016\, he received a Gold Eagle certificate from Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association. certificate. SUMMARY:Salsarobics
DESCRIPTION:Join Esther Gutierrez Sloan every Sunday for a dynamic workout that blends fun\, rhythm\, and full-body movement. This class isn’t just about exercise – it’s about joy\, discovery\, and the thrill of dance! \nThroughout the session\, participants choose their intensity level – low\, moderate\, or high – while moving to irresistible Latin\, Caribbean\, Spanish\, and African beats. Options for both low-impact and high-impact movements allow everyone to customize their experience. \nEach class delivers an energizing workout that averages 4\,000 to 4\,200 steps\, with varying degrees of intensity. Esther integrates the Total Body Training (TBT) Systems Methodology to support proper posture and promote muscle conditioning. She also incorporates Peripheral Heart Action (PHA) Training\, offering an optional challenge that builds aerobic strength based on individual pace and rhythm. \nTo build coordination and balance\, the class includes inline motion drills. Participants move across the room using steps that change direction – laterally\, diagonally\, forward\, and backward – adding functional movement to the workout. \nThe session concludes with Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching to enhance flexibility and recovery. \nColombian-born Esther Gutierrez Sloan created SALSArobics in 1989 to fuse authentic Latin rhythms with aerobic exercise. She has performed on national and local television in Illinois\, California\, Florida\, and New York. In addition to leading classes\, she has presented SALSArobics at fitness conventions\, schools\, health clubs\, ethnic festivals\, and international events. \nIn recognition of her groundbreaking work\, Esther was inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in 2010. SUMMARY:Tai Chi
DESCRIPTION:Tai Chi with Ken Ning\nSign up for Gorton’s Tai Chi class and join Ken Ning each Saturday to learn and practice Tai Chi. Ken’s Tai Chi class is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners. \nTai Chi is an inclusive form of exercise that anyone can do\, whether you are in peak shape\, or have limited mobility. Despite its slow pace\, Tai Chi is a valuable exercise for all ages\, read about the health benefits of Tai Chi below. SUMMARY:Kids' Art: Ornaments & Gift Tags
DESCRIPTION:Make this holiday season extra merry with a workshop filled with creativity\, laughter\, and hands-on fun! In this festive class\, kids ages 7–12 will dive into the joy of artmaking while creating their very own set of holiday treasures. Each child will design three handcrafted ornaments and a personalized gift tag. These projects are perfect for decorating a tree\, adding charm to holiday décor\, or gifting to someone special. Every piece will carry the warmth of their imagination and the pride of being made by hand. \nDuring the workshop\, children will explore a variety of artistic techniques. They’ll paint\, cut\, collage\, and experiment with mixed media. They’ll also see inspiring examples of ornament styles and design ideas. These samples are meant to spark creativity\, not limit it. With plenty of choices\, every child will have the freedom to put their own unique spin on each project. The result is artwork that feels personal\, meaningful\, and one-of-a-kind. \nThis is a guided experience\, but it is never rigid. Our instructor encourages play\, exploration\, and confidence-building. Kids are free to try new ideas\, combine different materials\, and express their individual style. Because all supplies are included\, families don’t need to bring anything except energy and holiday cheer. And best of all\, no prior art experience is necessary. Beginners are welcome\, and every participant will leave with projects they can feel proud of. \nMost importantly\, the workshop isn’t just about the final ornaments – it’s about the joyful process of creating. Kids will share in the spirit of the season\, make memories\, and build keepsakes that will last for years. This holiday class is more than an art activity. It’s a chance to celebrate together\, to embrace imagination\, and to make the holidays shine a little brighter. \nAges 7 – 12

SUMMARY:Collaborative Songwriting
DESCRIPTION:Collaborative Songwriting\nBring your creativity and make music together in this three-part songwriting session with musician Nigel Haye. All musicians and music lovers are welcome. Bring an instrument if you play one. You can also join without one. \nPart 1: Share & Listen (January 27)\nBring a song or demo you’ve written. Share it with the group and get feedback. You can also simply share your work and enjoy hearing what others create. This part will grow as more participants bring songs and demos to share. \nPart 2: Create Together (February 3)\nThis session forms the heart of the workshop. Gather in a circle and create a brand-new song together. Start by choosing a vibe or theme. Then build a melody and develop the song’s structure and instrumentation. \nUse the instruments you bring or try something new. We’ll also have extra instruments for anyone who needs one. You can contribute lyrics\, melodies\, rhythms\, or ideas. Everyone can play a part in the creative process. \nPart 3: Perform & Record (February 10)\nBring the finished song to life with a group performance. Share it with other attendees\, parents\, or the group itself. We’ll also record the final song. Anyone who wants a copy can receive the audio file. \nCome ready to listen\, experiment\, share ideas\, and make something new with others. No one needs to arrive with a finished song. Just bring your creativity and a willingness to collaborate! \nAges 13+ \nMeet the Instructor\n \nMy music journey began at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in February 2020. I started learning nursery rhymes like Mary Had a Little Lamb\, scales\, chords\, and different techniques. This eventually led to exploring dynamic fingerpicking techniques within the next two years\, modeling artists like Elliott Smith and Hozier. I have since written many songs\, some of which have been released under my name Nigel Haye on all streaming platforms. I have been fortunate to start teaching classical guitar at a music shop in Mchenry for the past two years\, having a total of 10+ students throughout my time teaching/performing there.\nDuring the past three years\, I have also become competent in piano\, drums\, bass\, and singing. This helps being able to push/sway a potential song idea that comes up\, in multiple different ways. I graduated with a B.M. in Music Production from Elmhurst University in 2026. During my senior year\, I was fortunate to serve as president of the songwriting club\, SEMFA (Student Entertainment: Music & Fine Arts). During this time\, I created some new opportunities that the club had never seen before\, such as creating a tangible\, mixed audio recording of every song created\, club merchandise\, and establishing  an executive board to protect the club’s longevity for years to come. We hosted bi-weekly meetings that would have  anywhere from 10-30 students at every meeting to make/share       music together.

SUMMARY:Etiquette: Dining with the Stars
DESCRIPTION:Manners Matter\nGood manners help kids shine. Simple things – like saying “please” or waiting their turn -can lead to big rewards. These small habits build confidence\, respect\, and kindness. They also help children connect with others and feel more comfortable in social settings. \nIn this class\, children ages 5 to 8 will learn the basics of everyday manners. The lessons are fun\, hands-on\, and easy to understand. Through gentle practice and simple routines\, kids will build skills they can use at home\, school\, or anywhere they go. \nGood manners start with respect – for yourself and for others. When children practice polite behavior\, they show they care. They learn to be thoughtful guests\, kind friends\, and helpful family members. \nThis class covers key habits that make mealtimes smoother and conversations easier. Step by step\, students will learn how to behave politely in group settings and around the table. \nTopics include:\n\nSetting the table for a two-course meal using real plates\, cutlery\, and glasses\nPracticing how to use silverware correctly\nTaking turns and being patient while others speak\nSitting tall with good posture and keeping elbows off the table\nListening carefully and making eye contact when someone is talking\nStarting and joining polite conversations during meals\n\nEach skill is taught in a way that’s age-appropriate and fun. Children will practice with their classmates and build habits they can use every day. \nBy the end of class\, your child will feel more confident and capable in social situations. They’ll understand why manners matter – and how to use them to show kindness and respect. \nGive your child a strong start with the lifelong gift of good etiquette. It’s a small investment that brings big results. \nAges Kindergarten – 3rd Grades  — Please note lunch will be served (bread roll\, chicken\, 3 vegetables and dessert)  Notify LIBBY JOHNSON if your child has an allergy we should be aware of. \nThis class is taught by Sarah Berto from Confidence with Etiquette.
