SUMMARY:Drawing & Painting in the Studio with Cheryl Steiger
DESCRIPTION:Come develop your artistic skills and creativity in the way that works best for you! \nAre you looking to develop specific skills or a new technique? Individualized art classes allow for a more personalized approach to learning. Cheryl will tailor instruction to your chosen medium\, skill level\, interests\, and learning style. You may choose to work from photos\, a still life\, or your imagination. Students must bring their own supplies. \nDrawing and painting benefit your mind and spirit. Art is an incredibly therapeutic activity\, it is relaxing\, and benefits fine motor skills\, hand-eye coordination\, problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Creative activities like painting are great mood boosters and can even make you more optimistic. Some research suggests art can slow cognitive decline. \nLooking for local art classes? Gorton offers a variety of art classes for all ages throughout the year. Visit our classes page or subscribe to our newsletter for information on our art classes. \nCheryl Steiger is a Chicago area artist and teacher. Cheryl grew up in Riverwoods\, IL. She studied fine and commercial art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In 1979\, she became a freelance illustrator\, also working on commissioned pieces and producing audio-visual shows\, cartooning and fashion illustration. Cheryl has been teaching art for the past 30 years at many Chicago institutions\, including The Art Center of Highland Park\, The Evanston Art Center and Edgebrook Chicago Public School. She shows her fine art locally and around the world. In the summer of 2007\, Cheryl participated in Chicago’s ecologically-themed Public Art Project\, Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet. Her small globe was on exhibit at The United Nations\, NY and The Kennedy Center\, and was purchased by the “Clinton Initiative”. The large globe is still being exhibited internationally.  \n “Creating art is my passion. Bringing my internal vision to the canvas to be shared is my greatest pleasure.”

SUMMARY:College Freshman Crisis Control
DESCRIPTION:THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED. PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE NEXT SESSION ON NOVEMBER 5!\n\nJoin us for a transformative workshop led by a seasoned life\, parenting\, and confidence coach\, T-Ann Pierce\, as she delves into the top four reasons why kids falter\, flounder\, flunk\, and fail their freshman year of college. \nAfter coaching panicked parents and stressed-out teens for nearly fifteen years\, T-Ann has learned that faltering in college has nothing to do with brains or ability. Protect your kids and your financial investment while fostering resilience and a stronger emotional connection with your child. \nParents will walk away with concrete strategies\, talking points\, and even a deep dive cheat sheet to help prepare themselves and their college freshmen for the blindspots that often derail success. \nT-Ann Pierce is a life\, parenting\, and confidence coach who helps her clients make meaning and sense of their demanding\, often overwhelming lives. With heartfelt candor and humor\, T-Ann captures emotional truths and offers real-world solutions to the conundrum of being human. She is a mother of four grown kids. She and her husband recently downsized and are trying to figure out what to eat for dinner. \n
