DESCRIPTION:Discover the Art of Colored Pencil Drawing\nWhether you’re a complete beginner or simply curious to explore a new artistic medium\, this engaging course is designed to introduce you to the beauty and versatility of colored pencils. In fact\, far beyond what you may remember from childhood or coloring books\, colored pencil is a powerful fine art tool. It can produce stunning detail\, rich color\, and expressive depth. \nIn this class\, you will first learn the foundational skills needed to begin your journey with colored pencils. Next\, we will cover essential topics such as the different types of pencils and paper available. From there\, you will discover how to apply color effectively and then practice techniques such as layering and blending in order to create depth and vibrancy in your drawings. \nEach session will not only introduce new techniques but also provide hands-on projects. As a result\, your confidence and skill will steadily grow. By the end of the course\, you will have completed 2–3 finished renderings\, each one designed to help you apply what you’ve learned in a creative and supportive environment. \nExperienced Artists Welcome\nIf you already have experience working with colored pencils\, you are welcome to join as well. Instead of following the beginner projects\, you may choose to focus on your own rendering. Meanwhile\, I will be available to provide individualized guidance and support so that you can take your work to the next level. \nUltimately\, this course offers an opportunity to experience how colored pencils can become a truly expressive and rewarding fine art medium. They are artistic interpretations of plants. He notices shapes\, light\, and shadows in the ground around him. He often focuses on a single detail – an individual leaf\, a flower\, or a small fragment of earth. In this way\, he brings those details to life. He has worked with colored pencil for several years and has taught the art for the past three. \nPhilip is currently teaching online from his home since March. He teaches online color pencil classes for other art studios/galleries\, private classes and Facebook demos. He has published two books featuring his art and techniques and has done a number of outdoor shows\, group and individual exhibitions. \nPhilip’s process of making a rendering with the detail that he wants to have requires a significant amount of time. DESCRIPTION:Discover the Art of Colored Pencil Drawing\nWhether you’re a complete beginner or simply curious to explore a new artistic medium\, this engaging course is designed to introduce you to the beauty and versatility of colored pencils. In fact\, far beyond what you may remember from childhood or coloring books\, colored pencil is a powerful fine art tool. It can produce stunning detail\, rich color\, and expressive depth. \nIn this class\, you will first learn the foundational skills needed to begin your journey with colored pencils. Next\, we will cover essential topics such as the different types of pencils and paper available. From there\, you will discover how to apply color effectively and then practice techniques such as layering and blending in order to create depth and vibrancy in your drawings. \nEach session will not only introduce new techniques but also provide hands-on projects. As a result\, your confidence and skill will steadily grow. By the end of the course\, you will have completed 2–3 finished renderings\, each one designed to help you apply what you’ve learned in a creative and supportive environment. \nExperienced Artists Welcome\nIf you already have experience working with colored pencils\, you are welcome to join as well. He has worked with colored pencil for several years and has taught the art for the past three. \nPhilip is currently teaching online from his home since March. He teaches online color pencil classes for other art studios/galleries\, private classes and Facebook demos. He has published two books featuring his art and techniques and has done a number of outdoor shows\, group and individual exhibitions. \nPhilip’s process of making a rendering with the detail that he wants to have requires a significant amount of time. DESCRIPTION:Collaborative Songwriting\nBring your creativity and make music together in this three-part songwriting session with musician Nigel Haye. All musicians and music lovers are welcome. Bring an instrument if you play one. You can also join without one. \nPart 1: Share & Listen (October 14)\nBring a song or demo you’ve written. Share it with the group and get feedback. You can also simply share your work and enjoy hearing what others create. This part will grow as more participants bring songs and demos to share. \nPart 2: Create Together (October 21)\nThis session forms the heart of the workshop. Gather in a circle and create a brand-new song together. Start by choosing a vibe or theme. Then build a melody and develop the song’s structure and instrumentation. \nUse the instruments you bring or try something new. We’ll also have extra instruments for anyone who needs one. You can contribute lyrics\, melodies\, rhythms\, or ideas. Everyone can play a part in the creative process. \nPart 3: Perform & Record (October 28)\nBring the finished song to life with a group performance. Share it with other attendees\, parents\, or the group itself. We’ll also record the final song. Anyone who wants a copy can receive the audio file. \nCome ready to listen\, experiment\, share ideas\, and make something new with others. No one needs to arrive with a finished song. Just bring your creativity and a willingness to collaborate! \nAges 13+ \nMeet the Instructor\n \nMy music journey began at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in February 2020. I started learning nursery rhymes like Mary Had a Little Lamb\, scales\, chords\, and different techniques. This eventually led to exploring dynamic fingerpicking techniques within the next two years\, modeling artists like Elliott Smith and Hozier. I have since written many songs\, some of which have been released under my name Nigel Haye on all streaming platforms. I have been fortunate to start teaching classical guitar at a music shop in Mchenry for the past two years\, having a total of 10+ students throughout my time teaching/performing there.\nDuring the past three years\, I have also become competent in piano\, drums\, bass\, and singing. This helps being able to push/sway a potential song idea that comes up\, in multiple different ways. I graduated with a B.M. in Music Production from Elmhurst University in 2026. During my senior year\, I was fortunate to serve as president of the songwriting club\, SEMFA (Student Entertainment: Music & Fine Arts). During this time\, I created some new opportunities that the club had never seen before\, such as creating a tangible\, mixed audio recording of every song created\, club merchandise\, and establishing  an executive board to protect the club’s longevity for years to come. We hosted bi-weekly meetings that would have  anywhere from 10-30 students at every meeting to make/share music together.

DESCRIPTION:* THIS IS A HYBRID COURSE!  1.5 or 4.5 HOURS ONLINE @ HOME AND 2.5 HOURS IN-PERSON!\nThis blended learning style Basic CPR and AED class with optional First Aid is a must have basic skill everyone should learn. This class will not satisfy a BLS requirement. You will learn how to perform life-saving skills such as rescue breathing\, CPR\, and managing an obstructed airway for all ages. Also\, learn how to use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). \nThis course is designed by the Health Safety Institute\, a worldwide leader in CPR\, AED and First Aid emergency care training programs. Students will receive a certification valid for two years\, upon successful completion of the course. Class materials include a digital reference book and digital certification card issued upon successful completion of the in-person skills class. \nONLINE\nThe on-line prerequisite class is self-paced. It is best to use a PC to complete. We will send you the link for the online portion once we reach our registration minimum. If you have not received your learning link by 1 week prior to class\, please contact instructor (Tanya 847-989-7056). CPR and AED only will take approximately 1.5  hour.  CPR\, AED\, and optional First Aid will take up to 4.5 hours. The instructor will send you an email with the class options. A learning link can not be assigned until you choose your option. \nIN-PERSON (At Gorton Center)  \nIn-Person skills class is the same for both options and will take approximately 2.5 hours. Wear comfortable clothing. Most of the practice will take place on the floor. A kneeling pad is provided but students may also want to bring a yoga mat or towel to lie on floor. Please inform instructor prior to class if accommodations are needed to explore options. Each book will reflect your individual style and creative point of view. \nMost importantly\, this class focuses on exploration and self-expression. There is no single way to create an artist book. Jackie has a passion for helping people find their voice and confidence through lessons in breath support\, vocal tone\, intonation\, range expansion\, dynamics\, music theory and phrasing. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Theatre from the University of Wisconsin. \nSing at Gorton is a welcoming community sing series designed to bring people together in a fun\, informal way. Each event is themed around a different style of music\, led by local hosts and open to everyone — no experience or vocal knowledge necessary. These one-off gatherings last about 45–60 minutes and end with refreshments\, making it easy to join in\, connect and sing. \n
