SUMMARY:Beginner Watercolor Pencil Art
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Unique Beauty of Watercolor Pencil \nWatercolor pencil is a versatile\, yet often overlooked\, medium. It combines the vibrant flow of watercolor with the precision of colored pencil. Because of this unique quality\, it opens the door to endless creative possibilities. In this fun and accessible course\, you’ll dive in and discover how to unlock its full potential step by step. \nThis class is designed for beginners as well as anyone curious to try something new. To begin\, you’ll explore the different types of watercolor pencils and papers. Next\, you’ll practice applying color both dry and wet. After that\, you’ll learn how to layer and blend effectively. Finally\, you’ll activate pigment with water to achieve luminous\, painterly effects. As you move through each stage\, you’ll see how the medium offers both expressive washes and fine detail – all with the stroke of a pencil. \nEach session will build on the last. First\, new techniques will be introduced. Then\, guided projects will give you the chance to practice them right away. Consequently\, your skills will grow consistently and your confidence will strengthen. By the end of the course\, you will have completed 2–3 finished renderings that showcase the versatility and beauty of watercolor pencil art. \nExperienced Artists Welcome \nIf you already have experience with watercolor pencils\, you’re encouraged to join as well. Instead of following the beginner projects\, you may choose to focus on a personal piece. Meanwhile\, I’ll provide feedback\, answer questions\, and offer individualized guidance. In this way\, you can refine your skills and take your work to the next level. \nUltimately\, this course will guide you through a journey of discovery. Step by step\, you’ll see how watercolor pencils can expand your creativity and become a powerful tool in your artistic practice. Therefore\, all levels are welcome! \n \nSupplies to be Purchased by the Participant\nCan be order thru Blicks Art Supply\, Amazon\, etc.\nArtist Grade Watercolor Pencils (have a good color selection 24+ colors\, does not have to be Prismacolor)\nMix Media Smooth Paper or a smooth Watercolor Paper (Hot Press)\nPencil Sharpener (manual or electric)\n#1 round Watercolor Brush*\n1/8″ Angle Shader Watercolor Brush*\nDrawing Board (the foam boards at Hobby Lobby work great)\n*NOTE: Having a selection of small/medium watercolor brushes is great. \n \nPhilip Schorn – P Schorn Studio – Botanical Color Pencil Artist His botanical renderings are not scientific studies of plant specimens. They are artistic interpretations of plants. He notices shapes\, light\, and shadows in the ground around him. He often focuses on a single detail – an individual leaf\, a flower\, or a small fragment of earth. In this way\, he brings those details to life. He has worked with colored pencil for several years and has taught the art for the past three. \nPhilip is currently teaching online from his home since March. He teaches online color pencil classes for other art studios/galleries\, private classes and Facebook demos. He has published two books featuring his art and techniques and has done a number of outdoor shows\, group and individual exhibitions. \nPhilip’s process of making a rendering with the detail that he wants to have requires a significant amount of time. Sometimes he uses other media\, such as ink\, watercolors or pastels.\nPhilip is a member of the Color Pencil Society of America\, Grayslake Arts Alliance and the Lake County Art League. His studio is located in Grayslake. \nEmail: phil@nullpschornstudio.com   FB: pschornstudio/

SUMMARY:Tai Chi
DESCRIPTION:Tai Chi with Ken Ning\nSign up for Gorton’s Tai Chi class and join Ken Ning each Saturday to learn and practice Tai Chi. Ken’s Tai Chi class is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners. \nTai Chi is an inclusive form of exercise that anyone can do\, whether you are in peak shape\, or have limited mobility. Despite its slow pace\, Tai Chi is a valuable exercise for all ages\, read about the health benefits of Tai Chi below. Dress comfortably and be prepared to have fun in Ken’s Tai Chi class. \nHealth Benefits of Tai Chi \nTai Chi has numerous health benefits. It is good for balance\, flexibility\, and stress – regular Tai Chi practice can improve overall physical health and well-being. In fact\, Harvard Health suggests Tai Chi might be “…the perfect activity for the rest of your life.” \nAs a form of exercise\, researchers in Toronto found Tai Chi is equivalent to brisk walking. So\, instead of worrying about your steps (how boring)\, join Ken’s Tai Chi class and have some more fun while you exercise. \nUnlike other forms of exercise\, Tai Chi movements are performed with relaxed muscles and a focus on deep breathing. Slow and gentle\, Tai Chi can improve blood flow\, balance\, and relaxation. Each Tai Chi pose flows into the next with circular\, continuous movements. This helps improve your balance and flexibility without putting strain on muscles and joints. \nTai Chi is also a very social activity\, commonly practiced in groups that rhythmically synchronize slow movements with deep breathing. Like meditation\, Tai Chi creates a calm and focused mind and can create a state of mindfulness. \nTai Chi also benefits emotional well-being and mental health. Regular Tai Chi practice can improve concentration\, physical self-awareness\, and create a sense of inner peace. Tai chi is a great exercise for relieving stress and has been shown to benefit hypertension and high blood pressure. \nWhat is Tai Chi? \nTai Chi is a Chinese traditional exercise that blends martial arts’ movement with meditation. Dating back a thousand years\, Tai Chi remains a popular activity in China and around the world. \nTai Chi is a series of slow\, choreographed martial arts movements and poses. Tai Chi poses are circular and continuous\, with an emphasis on smooth transitions and maintaining a centered and grounded posture. Tai Chi poses mimic the movements of animals or nature\, such as flowing water or a bird in flight.  \nKen has been practicing martial arts for 27 years\, and started Tai Chi training in 1996 with Sifu Dale Washington\, Sifu Ban Toy in 2000 and Grand Master Yang Jun in 2006. He has been practicing Tai Chi for 21 years and teaching Tai Chi for 12 years. In 2016\, he received a Gold Eagle certificate from Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan Association. certificate. Ken is also one of Grand Master Yang Jun’s Disciples for the Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan. He teaches Kickboxing and Full-contact Martial Arts teacher and is certified by Ng Family Martial Arts Association.

SUMMARY:Sing at Gorton - Upbeat Country Sing-Along
DESCRIPTION:Come sing with us at this evening of music! \n\nFirst\, we’ll warm up! Next\, we will sing a selection of familiar upbeat country favorites led by Lake Forest’s own Liam Sheridan! No experience is necessary\, and there’s no future commitment – just a chance to share music in a welcoming\, low-pressure setting. \nThe event runs about 45–60 minutes\, followed by refreshments and time to connect. \nGood to know: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen to all ages – bring the whole family\nNo experience or vocal knowledge necessary\nOne-off event with no future commitment\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nMeet Your Leader:\n  \nLiam Sheridan\n\nLiam Sheridan is a rising Singer/Songwriter from the Chicagoland area. After spending years on stage as a musical theater performer and learning violin at his local elementary school\, Sheridan picked up an old guitar during his freshman year and never looked back.  Without formal lessons\, Liam spent hours learning\, practicing\, experimenting and quickly advanced to performing his first-ever live performance as a background rhythm guitarist at CROYA’s Battle of the Bands.   \nThis was just the beginning for Sheridan.  After eventually deciding to go solo\, he quickly started to focus on his singing and acoustic guitar abilities.  His first ever performance as a lead country singer of a band was during an annual event\, Lake Forest Days\, just before his sophomore year of high school. This was a major event and fueled his desire to perform live and find his own sound. \nNot long after\, Sheridan took a leap and set his sights on Nashwood\, a local country music festival in Highwood\, Illinois.  He was invited to play his first ever solo acoustic gig at just 15 years old at 28 Mile Distilling Company.  After playing 3 sets that weekend\, Liam gained traction in the local community and began getting requests to play at private events\, fundraisers\, and other local venues.  Sheridan’s name quickly grew and he charted 63 shows in only his first year as an acoustic artist.  Venues included local joints like Duffer’s pub\, Billy Bricks\, Toadstool Pub\, Up North Axe and Tap\, The Nite ‘N Gale\, K-Solo Vintage\, and more! \nAt 16\, he started to explore songwriting.  Sheridan said that songwriting quickly became a new passion for him and he couldn’t stop.  “It was a new way of being able to express myself in a way I never thought was possible.”  His writing led him to audition for a prestigious songwriting camp at Nashville’s famed Country Music Hall of Fame.  He worked with amazing mentor Paulina Jayne\, an accomplished singer/songwriter in Nashville.  Together\, they co-wrote\, recorded\, and performed a song. Liam shared: “Paulina was so amazing to work with! I cannot even describe how much I learned from her in such a short period of time.” \nNow\, Sheridan’s goal now is to share his music and story with the world. Acoustically-driven\, Liam’s lyrics are wrought with pure emotion and raw experiences that weave his stories together and strike a chord with all who listen.  Inspired by the likes of Noah Kahan\, Tyler Childers\, Lizzy McAlpine\, and Zach Bryan\, Liam brings a warm\, country folk\, and emotion-filled tone to every stage.

SUMMARY:Beginner Graphite Pencil with Phil Schorn
DESCRIPTION:Fundamentals of Pencil Drawing: From Observation to Finished Work\nThis course is a clear and approachable introduction to pencil drawing. It is designed for beginners\, but it also supports artists who want to refresh and strengthen their skills. Pencil drawing is both accessible and expressive. Through this class\, you will gain confidence and learn techniques to create drawings that feel realistic and engaging. \nEach session has two main parts. First\, you will practice drawing what you see. To do this\, we will use observational exercises\, often with simple still life setups. Step by step\, you’ll train your eye to notice shapes\, proportions\, light\, and shadow more accurately. \nNext\, you will move from practice into a finished drawing. In this second part\, you’ll learn how to plan a composition\, layer shading\, and add detail and texture. These steps will help bring your artwork to life. \nAs the course continues\, you will build a strong foundation. You’ll grow more comfortable with line\, form\, value\, and perspective – the essential elements of drawing. \nExperienced Artists Welcome\nIf you already have some experience\, you can join too. You’ll have the option to focus on a personal project or rendering. Along the way\, I’ll give you individual feedback and guidance. This support will help refine your technique and strengthen your creative vision. \nIn short\, this class offers structure\, practice\, and encouragement. Whether you are brand new to drawing or ready to sharpen your skills\, you’ll find a welcoming space to grow as an artist. \nSUPPLIES TO BE PURCHASED BY THE PARTICIPANT: – Can be order thru Blicks Art Supply\, Amazon\, etc.\n9 x 12 Drawing Paper* \n9 x 12 or larger sketchbook \nDrawing pencil set (range 6B-4H) \nKneaded Eraser \nSet of blending stumps \n12” Ruler \n \nPhilip Schorn – P Schorn Studio – Botanical Color Pencil Artist His botanical renderings are not scientific studies of plant specimens. \nPhilip’s process of making a rendering with the detail that he wants to have requires a significant amount of time. Sometimes he uses other media\, such as ink\, watercolors or pastels.\n Philip is a member of the Color Pencil Society of America\, Grayslake Arts Alliance and the Lake County Art League. His studio is located in Grayslake. \nEmail: phil@nullpschornstudio.com   FB: pschornstudio/
