West African Drum Class – Fall 2019
This class runs on Wednesdays, September 11- October 2 (4 weeks) from 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Helen will share with everyone the great joy of traditional hand drumming from Guinea, West Africa!
She has been traveling to Guinea for the past 19 years studying the music and culture.
You will learn basic rhythms on dunun drums and the djembe accompaniment parts. You’ll also learn the origins of each rhythm, receive expert instruction on all instruments in the traditional djembe orchestra and deepen your understanding of the place of music, dance, and song in West African life.
Helen is able to work simultaneously with students of all levels – beginner to professional.
All levels are welcome! Drums will be provided should you not have one. No experience needed.
Gorton Community Center will take and may use photos and videos from this event for its promotional purposes. Your attendance indicates your consent to the above.
