The Long Goodbye by Karl Stelter
Karl Stelter’s directing debut The Long Goodbye is a soulful short film that explores the complex family dynamic of aging, and how the familial roles we play can detract from the relationships we want to have. Included in the screening is a moderated conversation + Q&A with Karl, a reception with drinks and food, and a few special surprises!
Grandpa is sick. Grandma is trying to keep everyone smiling. And their visiting grandson watches helplessly as they grapple with the inevitable question: how do you say goodbye?
The Petersons struggle to recover after James has a heart attack, and Evelyn tries to fend off their grandson Matt from ‘helping’. When Matt comes anyway, Evelyn exhausts herself trying to live up to the golden memories of the past. But as James continues to struggle and Matt circles closer to the truth, Evelyn is forced into a soul-crushing decision: how do you say goodbye when you know the end is coming?
