Rendezvous Arts 2021/2022 Band of Five Part of the Rendezvous Arts Series
Rendezvous Arts is a chamber music and visual arts series started by several of the musicians of the Lake Forest Symphony. When the orchestra sadly folded, they wanted to find a way to continue to play for the friends that they had made from the Symphony’s audience – and so the plan to continue the orchestra’s Salon Series chamber music program was born.
Rendezvous Arts 2021/2022 Band of Five + Lee Kesselman with artist Maggie Capettini
Band of Five woodwind quintet has been seen gracing stages, cathedrals and orchestra pits of Chicago for many decades – and they are thrilled to step out from behind the curtain of the strings to shine on their own! These 5 players (Susan Saylor: flute, Deb Stevenson: oboe, Dan Won: clarinet, Jonathan Saylor: bassoon and Dan O’Connell: horn) have personalities as distinctly different as the five instruments they play – but put them together and they perform and react as one! Together with pianist Lee Kesselman, the quintet will perform the Mozart Piano Quintet (reportedly one of Mozart’s favorite compositions!) and the Poulenc Sextet. Lively programming and the chance to experience these musicians up close and personal makes their shows a concert to remember!
Friday night concert timeline:
6:30-7:00 PM cocktails and visual art display
7:00-8:15 PM concert (no intermission)
8:15-9:00 PM more cocktails and conversation with artist Maggie Capettini
Paint has presence in my work. As a knife painter, I try to push the boundaries of what the knife can do. In addition to the traditional impasto (thick paint), my paint application can have a more quiet, gentle presence in a painting. I also incorporate brushwork and oil pigment sticks into my larger paintings to preserve the spontaneity and fresh quality of a quickly painted impression. As an expressive colorist, I create representational paintings with a focus on color relationships in a painterly style. Weather, the effects of light, and nature all bring me strong inspiration, and I just can’t stop painting – the world holds endless paintable subjects. All my works are done with artist quality oils on archival supports.
