First Thursdays: Nomadland
1st Thursdays films are brought to you by
the Sheffield Foundation
Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, Nomadland features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.
First Thursdays Film Series: On the first (or second!) Thursday of the month throughout the year, Gorton screens the latest in independent cinema – from award-winning documentaries, to riveting dramas to artistically excellent cinematic short films. Thank you to the Sheffield Foundation for sponsoring the First Thursdays Film Series through the Gorton Producer Program.
The John and Nancy Hughes Theater is a proud member of NATO – the National Alliance of Theater Owners and adheres to NATO’s “CinemaSafe” campaign, a program promoting protocols and guidelines developed and supported by leading epidemiologists to support safe moviegoing. Gorton is proud to join more than 33,000 screens nationwide who have committed to implementing expert-backed, industry-specific health and safety protocols, including, but not limited to:
- Encouraging those patrons who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 to wear a mask while inside. Masks are of course welcome to be worn for your comfort regardless.
- Enforcing social distancing in our theater.
- Reducing capacity in our theater.
- Enhancing building cleaning, and providing hand sanitizer stations.
CinemaSafe puts the health and safety of our patrons and staff at the core of our film presentations. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Gorton’s Director of Film, Rebecca Fons (email@example.com) with any questions. We’ll see you at the movies – safely!
