Mahjong (American Version)-Session 4
MAHJONG is Back at the Gorton Center!
This is a 6 week series. It runs Tuesdays, October 1-November 5, 3-5PM
Mahjong is a popular Chinese game played with sets of tiles. Like many popular games, mahjong has many regional variations, but Simone will be teaching the American mahjong version with special bingo-like scoring cards. American mahjong is unique from Chinese mahjong in that it utilizes racks, jokers, and “Hands and Rules” score cards. Mahjong is always played with four players seated around a table. The first person to match a hand of 14 tiles and thus “call mahjong” ends the game, whereupon tiles are scored and a winner is declared.
The excitement of mahjong lies in the decisions that you will constantly have to make. Should you discard a tile and gain an advantage, or stay with a decent hand? There is the exhilaration of winning a hand as well as regret at not having been bold enough to have made a different choice. Like poker, you will learn a lot about your opponents as you play mahjong and adjust your strategy according to their strengths and weaknesses.
*Participants will need to buy their Mahjong Card either online (Amazon) or at Ross Highland Park- https://www.rosshighlandpark.com/
