Hook Part of the From Stage to Screen series
co-presented with the Citadel Theatre
After witnessing the origin story of Peter Pan in Peter and the Star Catcher on Citadel’s stage, come see Gorton alum Robin Williams take on the role of a grown-up Pan returning to Neverland in the film Hook.
“Granny Wendy: So… your adventures are over? Peter Banning: Oh, no. To live… to live would be an awfully big adventure.”
When his young children are abducted by his old nemesis, Capt. Hook, middle-aged lawyer Peter Banning returns to his magical origins as Peter Pan. Peter must revisit a foggy past in which he abandoned Neverland for family life, leaving Tinkerbell and the Lost Boys to fend for themselves. Given their bitterness toward Peter for growing up — and their allegiance to their new leader, Rufio — the old gang may not be happy to see him.
Directed by Steven Spielberg
Starring Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman & Julia Roberts
Following the film will be a talk back with guests from Citadel’s production of Peter and the Starcatcher– to be announced shortly.
From Stage to Screen is curated with Citadel Theatre’s Artistic Director Scott Phelps and in conjunction with their theatrical season, Gorton programs films similar in theme or from the same artist as productions on Citadel’s stage. This series is aimed at crossing the boundaries from stage to screen. After each screening there will be a talk back featuring guests from Citadel’s productions connecting the shows.
Hook‘s corresponding Citadel Theatre play:
The Tony Award-winning Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.
