Understanding Pet Loss: A Compassionate Conversation

Hosted by Jessica from the Animal Hospital of West Lake Forest

Join Jessica for a heartfelt and informative session that explores the unique challenges of losing a beloved pet. This event offers support for those currently grieving and guidance for anyone who wants to better understand or help others through this emotional experience.

Why Pet Loss Hurts So Deeply

For many of us, pets are more than animals—they are family, companions, and trusted sources of comfort. Losing them can bring overwhelming grief that’s often misunderstood or dismissed. Jessica will explain why this kind of loss feels so different and why it deserves recognition and care.

Emotional Responses and Social Challenges

Attendees will explore common reactions to pet loss, including sadness, guilt, anger, and loneliness. Jessica will also discuss how society sometimes minimizes this grief, making it harder for pet owners to process their emotions or find support.

This session will offer practical strategies for coping with pet loss and ways to support friends or loved ones who are grieving. Jessica brings deep empathy and experience to the conversation, creating a safe space for learning and healing.

A Space for Connection and Compassion

All are welcome—whether you’re grieving now or simply want to learn how to be there for others. Come honor your pet’s memory, gain insight, and find comfort among others who truly understand.

Jessica is a CVT who has served the Lake Forest and surrounding communities at the Animal Hospital of West Lake Forest since 2004.  She is a wife and mother of 4 with 4 dogs of her own. She is passionate about helping navigate the various aspects of pet loss.
