Virtually Gorton: Tuesday Night Film Club – The Week of Marilyn!
Every week we will have two suggested films to watch and on Tuesday evenings at 7pm we will get together via Zoom to discuss them. This week we are discussing two picks starring Marilyn Monroe. Hope you’ll join!
THIS WEEK’S FILMS:
For May 12th at 7:00PM
Some Like It Hot (1959)
After witnessing a Mafia murder, slick saxophone player Joe (Tony Curtis) and his long-suffering buddy, Jerry (Jack Lemmon), improvise a quick plan to escape from Chicago with their lives. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz band and hop a train bound for sunny Florida. While Joe pretends to be a millionaire to win the band’s sexy singer, Sugar (Marilyn Monroe), Jerry finds himself pursued by a real millionaire (Joe E. Brown) as things heat up and the mobsters close in. Some Like It Hot won the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture–Musical or Comedy, Best Actor (Jack Lemmon) and Best Actress (Marilyn Monroe) in a Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical.
Directed by Billy Wilder | Starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis & Jack Lemmon

The Misfits (1961)
Arthur Miller scripted this tale of a recently divorced, one-time stripper (Marilyn Monroe) who begins a relationship with a down-on-his-luck cowboy (Clark Gable). The man, with his partners (Montgomery Clift, Eli Wallach), works at odd-jobs and looks for “misfits” (wild horses too small for any real work) to be ground up into dog food. The stripper, who is surprisingly idealistic, demands that no man of hers will do such a thing, and the two soon have a showdown.
