The John & Nancy Hughes Theater at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest, IL is a newly renovated 300-seat theater, boasting state-of-the-art lights, sound, and digital cinema. The multi-purpose theater produces film, theater, symphonic and opera music, dance, touring events, and lectures. The Gorton Community Center is a five (5) minute walk from the Metra Union-North train line.
Working under the Technical Production Manager, the technical assistant will be scheduled to operate lighting, sound, or projection equipment for productions and performances. They will also work with the Technical Production Manager to complete theater projects- including inventory, documentation, and facility improvement. This position is part-time and gig based.

Skills and Experience:
- Advanced knowledge of live sound engineering and/or lighting
- Basic knowledge of architectural lighting or sound, digital cinema projection, and stage construction
- Aptitude towards hardware and software technology
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
- Ability to independently work on projects; self-starter
- Experience in theater production
- Willingness to learn
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift 50lbs alone or with assistance
Responsibilities May Include:
- Operating lighting, sound, and projection equipment for productions and performances
- Working directly with the Technical Production Manager on projects and productions
- Assisting with equipment inventory, repair, and maintenance
- Assist on special projects
- Assist with production set-up, load-ins, and design
- Assist with daily maintenance tasks
- Assist with research, archival, and documentation
Qualifications:
- Minimum of associate degree in theater production, recording technology, lighting, or equivalent degree or experience
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in live production
